Point taken, but from my perspective it still doesn't seem particularly wise to install redundant applications that would bog down the system and create more security vulnerabilities.

I will be the first to admit that Firefox is a great product, easily the most feature-rich Internet browser on the market. However, the fact remains that it has historically had just as many vulnerabilities as Internet Explorer, if not more. In the current generation of browsers, Internet Explorer 8 has shown that it is more secure than Firefox 3. Additionally, Firefox has consistently had a problem with memory leaks. Last but not least, as another person already implied, there are at least two different ways to block advertisements within IE8. Here is one of them:
