Scott Bauhs: I was in Chico. My wife (Audrey, whom he married in July) still has a semester of school (at Chico State). I was planning on living in Chico while she finishes up and then we'll move up to Mammoth Lakes (the Mammoth Track Club's home base) together. I was up there for about two months this year, and then we were in San Diego for a couple of months. And then I went over to Europe for a month, and I've been in Chico ever since. There's a meet that my high school (San Ramon Valley High School in Danville) put on and they named it after me so I felt kind of obligated to go to it. I'm going to fly out to San Francisco (to Birmingham for the World Half Marathon

2 months in Mammoth is hardly ever there. That is long enough to get the body into adjustment process.Then in San Diego for awhile, got married, and so on. Scott is going through a lot of changes and inconsistencies right now and when his wife finishes school and they get settle down in Mammoth all will be great and we will see many more PR's from him.

So, if Scotty B is your employee, and his recent work history includes the measurable performances that he has produced as well as all the other distractions and inconsistencies, what do his employee review contain?

If running p.r.'s was the same as cranking out TPS reports we'd all be world class.

So, he was 5th at the US 20K. Ran PRs on the track (not huge jumps, but in the right direction), was second in a pretty good 5K race in Europe, 10th in the 5000 at US Champs. Oh, and won the Chico 1500 in a PR.

Nothing huge, but solid. If you throw down to results on paper and compre his results to some others you will see that it was an ok seaon for his first year out of school.

I can think of 5 guys right now who struggled as first-year post-collegians. If they are patient and stick with their coaches, they will figure it out. It takes a little time. By the end of year two, if it isn't going well, then they need to re-evaluate.

Pifer, par year, best of the group, esp. in 1500

Vaughn, 5 or so seconds from pr in 5k, same at US Champs as Oly Trials

Curtis, disaster, anyone know the story?

Consistent training will pay off for them, but sometimes people just need time to adjust to new training/lifestyle.

20k national championships. He qualified there. That race is a qualifier, and anyone that does not want to go, it goes to the next one, etc.

Or they just don't have what it takes to be consistent at the next level. Seriously, take away all the distractions of taking classes and life suddenly becomes tougher? Whatever.

How old is that interview because in this article it says he moved to mammoth lakes in early 2009 so that would be a good 10 months at altitude.

Nelson didn't struggle. Remember earlier in the summer when he nearly pipped Fam at the US 15k, ran very strong and qualified for the US WC team over 10k?

This reaction is not quite my kind of style, but when I saw the C-G-B results on the LRC homepage I thought that those last three results weren't that good (for a US-teammember).

Today I saw the photo's and then I saw that G and B look a bit a heavy for a pro-distancerunner, compared to the Africans, most Europeans, Ritz and even Carlson.

Well it's obvious. He doesn't have Nike coaching him. The new technologies and altitude tents should suit him well. Hell, just look at the new and improved Ritz. Scotty needs to get off his butt and move to Portland. ASAP.

A bit off-topic, but by looking at the photos I noticed Ritz ran without a watch. I like this approach of not controlling every mile or km split. Shows that he was really focused on the race instead and just tried to do his best.

Not that obvious... ML-tc got two Olympic medals in their pocket and before this summer the biggest star of US-distancerunning was training in Mammoth Lakes. Bauhs opted for one of the best pro-programs in the world.

And now, everybody has to go to AlSal? The new and improved Ritz benefited a lot from the work Hudson has done in previous years. I'm curious if AlSal can help Ritz to run more AR's.
