Crazy weekend for NCAA XC? RANK 'EM

Sorry for me last post being in bold, it wasn't supposed to be. Not sure why it does that sometimes.

4. Oregon

5. Portland

10.Syracuse

Big East will be rocking this year- Louisville, Syracuse and Georgetown are all loaded.

Why no love for 'Bama? Imports or not, they rocked Oregon, and solidly beat BYU by 10 points. NAU ran well to take down a weakened OK state (who's performance get's taken with a large grain of salt). Stanford did as expected- if I could give two #2's I'd do NAU/Standford, but NAU beat a better field so they get tiebreaker.

As for Oregon, I drop them down to the 8-10 range RIGHT NOW. I believe they ran pretty much everyone they have- yes, Puskedra will run better, but the Mercados, centro, aj and co really haven't shown anything in CROSS COUNTRY that says they'll improve tons.

Could you please explain this post to me? What you are trying to do is predict what you think will happen in the NCAA. What rankings are supposed to do is rank the teams based on their performances. The pre-season ranking is the only ranking that is based on projection, just like the other sports. Once the first ranked team loses, they don't keep their top spot just because their quarterback was injured and might come back in a few weeks. It really is a simple process.

You are correct in that everyone can rank the way they want to. I used to be one of the rankers and there was never any criteria given on how to rank the teams, which is why the rankings often didn't make sense. It is similar to MVP voting or Hall of Fame induction, each voter sees it their own way. I just personally think it should be based on what you have done, not on what you might be able to do. How often does a team keep a higher ranking than they deserve because a stud runner was supposedly coming back at the end of the year and then many times they don't end up coming back. So you have a team ranked in the top ten all year that doesn't even make it to nationals. It has happened before and will happen again based on how people rank.

He was a top 25 national runner a couple years ago now he's WAY back. Oregon was ran everyone minus Wheating who will be in the top 5 by the end of the year. BYU is very underrated and even though they got beat by Alabama they have a much deeper team overall and will beat them at nats.

Stanford is not better than OSU. Different course. The OSU course is much tougher than the Stanford course. OSU did not run it's top two runners, if they had they would have won. NAU would still have lost even if DM had run.

When they run their top two runners, then you can rank them higher, but until then, OSU has been beaten by NAU. Nobody knows for sure if these two runners will be back or not. As everyone on these message boards knows, nothing is definite until it happens. Until then, OSU is not the top ranked team in the country.

Ranker : OSU have more depth and could still challenge but Girma and Chirchir are big doubts in my mind

Okay everyone. Let's get this straight once and for all.

1) Chirchir is history. He will not be a factor in NCAAs ever again.

2) OSU's chances do not depend on Chirchir. Their top five will be Vail, Kosgei, Fernandez, Mesecho, Lowe, not necessarily in that order. They will live or die with those five. Sure it would be nice to have a top 50ish Chirchir for insurance purpose but see 1) above.

Now please do NOT bring up Chirchir's 15th place two years ago EVER AGAIN. Not relevant.

If Kipchumpa wasn't knocked down during the race, the results would have been a bit different. He moved from 15-20th back up the where he finished. Portland will be top 10 by NCAA. UW will be...out the back door!

1. Stanford - high racing-IQ, chiggaz may assist in this regard

2. Oklahoma State - most talented

3. Alabama - the import n*ggaz got game

4. Oregon - best prog in country, will smoke when it counts

5. Colorado - best prog in counrty, same as above

7. BYU - mormon nggaz get good sleep,dont drink,thus run well at big meets

11. Portland - Connor is an AMAZING coach, excellentprogram
