In a sport like baseball, what would sub-elite be? AAA, AA, A?
I'll make an assumption and say that if you consider someone playing for a single-A team to be sub-elite in baseball and you applied that to track/roads, you'd have to open the door a little wider than 4:05/14:15/29:30/65/2:20.
You're onto something there. You have to be pretty good to play A ball. Comparing that possibly to another analogy, getting a DI full ride in football, basketball, or baseball.
For DI men coming out of high school, probably 4:15 1600, 9:10 3200 (although there are many schools that won't even look a kid who does that, while others will take 4:25/9:30 types).
So here it is, based on those criteria:
4:17 mile (say 4:00 1500)
14:30 5K
30:00 10K
1:08:00 HM
2:23 marathon
Looking at reality (what you see out there anymore, outside of college running), this is more like it:
<
4:20
15:00
31:00
1:10
2:30
