The formula misses the most important part of running, context, circumstance. I.E. where and when the hell were people running two miles in comparison to 3Ks 5Ks and 10Ks. Two miles run in May are NOT going to stack up against 3's 5's and 10's run in August and September with loaded rabbited fields.

And then there's the fact that Ritz hasn't taken track seriously in 3-4 YEARS. When did you expect him to lower his pr at 5K? When he wasn't racing it? When he was doing marathons? Get clue.

Is it true that all his athletes get diagnosed with asthman and thryroid problems by an out of state doctor with doping expertise? The majority of his athletes? That's what I've heard.

It's also telling that none of his racing peers endorse or stick up for the guy. Other than Rupp, the stable consists of desperate professionals that haven't reached their potential. People willing to try anything. The street rumor that Nike strongarmed Ritz and Webb to Portland makes sense.

How about some EVIDENCE here? NOBODY has provided any evidence that Salazar was linked to BALCO, nor has anybody provided evidence that Salazar takes his athletes to an out-of-state doctor to diagnose them with thyroid problems. Nor has anyone provided evidence that his guys (or solinski and teg, or anyone else) use testoboost or androgel or any "gray area" substances.

Also, if you would have actually read the entirety of Salazar's essay on drugs in sport, you would find that his position is that the banned substances list should be definite and final, while allowing legitimate medical concerns to be addressed. He also adamantly states that he never even CONSIDERED doping during his career, even calling himself "naive" due to his ignorance of others' doping.

Also, read Duel in the Sun for a real background on why he ended up taking prozac. His life was pretty f***ed up after Boston, and (to me) it did in fact sound like he was semi-depressed. He went on a pilgrimage, tried all these different remedies, etc.

Come on, it's common knowledge that his endocrinologist is in Houston, and yes he takes all of his athletes there.

Doesn't seem fishy when you consider that Ritz ran only the 10k at Worlds and Bekele doubled back in the 5k, which means two more rounds--nevermind that Bekele was inclined not to run the 5k but felt pressured to do so due to Defar's and Dibaba's lack of success. Hermens even explicitly said that Bekele wanted to take it easier in Zurich, but felt pressure from Ritz and Soi on the last lap.

And there is drug testing in Zurich. If you watch one of the post-race interviews with Ritz (I think from T&FN), someone walks in and he asks if the guy is his drug tester.

It is an absolute lie to say that Slaney's testosterone level was abnormal. What is was measured against was abnormally low. There are many arguments on this, pro and con. But those knowledgeable and not out to slander anyone knows that the testos level was not abnormal.
