Key West was supposed to be Cozumel but it got changed due to Swine Flu hysteria...fine w/ me since I've never been to Key West.
~$7,000 TOTAL cost door to door from Shreveport, including excursions. Dang, traveling is expensive w/ kids!
Watch out for bot flies in Belize. I've known two people who went to Belize, and both got hit with bot fly larvae. Find some rather fun videos on YouTube about botfly larvae removal.

That's a really cool idea. We're going for about 6 days to RI and already planning to run in a 5K (maybe 2 races)while we're there.
Enjoy your freedoms, young bucks and does! Our summer vacation planning this year is controlled by the school district's calendar and my mom's health (diagnosed w/terminal pancreatic cancer early this year).
The one trip we've planned out is five days in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where my wife's family grew up. It's scenic, woodsy, laid-back country. Hiking trails, lakes, and trout streams await.
I'll be in Riga, Stockholm, Seoul and Cagliari between now and September.
Just about any trip to Mexico should be terribly cheap at this point, even if you only book now to travel toward the end of summer. We are looking at taking the kids down there. But, in the meantime, North Carolina is definitely on the itinerary. And, of course, plenty of camping in the great Colorado outdoors in our backyard. That's the best vacation of all and it's pretty much free.
I've travelled so much the past few years I really don't think I want to do anything.

My girlfriend really wants to go to Bali. She'd never been anywhere before I met her, then I started her travelling, we've been to Italy and Europe 3 times now, and now she's ready to try something EAST.
Any advice on Bali?

We'll only be there a day and everything says bites are extremely rare. We'll lather up in Deet to keep the host parasites away from us though!
Thanks for the heads up, mainly for after we return. It'll keep us from freaking out if we do get bit.

I'm going to Flagpole's house while he and his stupid family are on their stupid financially-conscious vacation and taking dumps all over his house.
I was in Bali 10 years ago and it was great, but there are some downsides.1 - I went before the bombing and was in the clubs that were bombed. Never thought about terrorism when I was there, I would now.2 - Touts and vendors - Kuta was really bad for vendors bugging you on the beach, if you don't like shooing people away, this will be a problem.3 - High-end resorts are really nice and a bargin, but it is a long way to go to stay in a Westin or Four Seasons.I liked Bali, but I think I would put Thialand on the list above Bali. It is just as much a bargin, the food os so much better, you can add a few days on the islands and a few days in Bangcok for a mix of beach and city.
