There is a huge flaw in your logic. If you think that 1:40 for 20 miles is of Olympic level you are wrong. I can name 10 guys in this field that can go through at 1:40 AND THEN RACE THE LAST 10K. This will not be a year where a tactical 2:13 makes the team. There are to many guys that are willing to hurt. I was neglectful in my earlier post by not including Dowling he is another. I also feel that Reesor (if he stays healthy) will be willing to go out in sub 1:40. There is always someone that is off the radar screen that shocks everyone on an Olympic year and I don't know who that is either.
I say shay wins. With 2 miles to go, he is in 4'th, his psycho dad and gang of sons tackles the top 3 (meb, culpepper, eddie) and he hangs on to outkick browne.

The case for WEJO rests on three things: first, he can run under 28 for 10k
When did wejo run under 28?? Yeah, that's what I thought.
Given your "name," you surely need a lesson in manners, but it's unlikely that it would take. Perhaps, however, a lesson in grammar might. "Can" points to the possibility of something, not its actuality, to which "did" does refer. I was simply making the good faith assumption that anyone who comes as close as WEJO did last year despite missing so much training the year or so before, can be assumed CAPABLE of running under 28. This hardly seems foolish.

You assume that there are ten guys in the field you can run under 2:11, and I'm not sure that's true. However, even if you're right, I only wanted to point to a very fast run over a long distance--a run that was preparatory for another race (which, I should add, was foolish). And I agree with you entirely that if the weather holds, this will be a fast race rather than a slow one; and I also agree with you (I think this is what you're suggesting) that there are many who might finish in the top three. Nevertheless, what Culpepper, Meb, Browne, and WEJO have all shown is an ability to show up when it most matters--and here I'm thinking about results in the national 10Ks.

I agree on the Shay call, but Meb will be a tough run.
You from SC? Like the Mingo reference.
Men's marathon predictions:
!. Alan Culpepper
2. Meb K.
3. Eddy H
4. Ryan Shay
This thing is going to be won in a mid-2:12. There's no reason for anyone to run faster.
well you really schooled me! ouch, my pride, it hurts so.
"can" doesn't mean shit. "did" does.
"can" is no different then all the bozos that annouce, "I'm in 2:12 shape". who cares what you "can" do or what "shape" you're in. its the race that matters.
like you said, you made an assumption about wejo's abilities. to me, it seems like a damn big assumption.

If so then there will be 10 guys under 2:13.
two words. pete julian. he's making a list and checking it twice.
He ran 28:06.58 for gosh sakes--hardly a foolish assumption that he can run seven seconds faster, especially with a longer build-up!!

most assumptions about athletes are foolish. especially ones that suggest they can run faster than they ever have. if wejo "does" run < 28 some day then that's great. but saying he "can" is hollow.
I think there will be at least 5 2:12s or faster.
I will particularly be keeping watch on the results of Wejo, Jason & Eddy who are regulars here and all possibles for being among those 5.
Is there any live on-line coverage for us foreigners?
