Where did Mike Slack run sub4 in North Dakota?
Where did Mike Slack run sub4 in North Dakota?
I know that you're just kidding about California, but I've personally witnessed dozens of sub 4's in this state including sub 4's by CA high schooler Matt Guisto, and numerous CA collegians including Jamey Harris and several Stanford runners.
I know that some guys have gone under 4:00 in Idaho at the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome. I'm pretty sure that Buck Jones, Marcus Dunbar and Marc Davis (The Doc) have all gone under 4:00 there.
I don't think a Sub-4 has ever been run in Oregon.
The 1600 state meet record for Michigan's Upper Peninsula is only 4:22.21. Not sure about actual mile or 1600 record.
California...Stanford...seems like one contrary example. New York...5th Avenue Mile. Alaska...Anchorage downhill mile...3:59 course record...just kidding about the last one.
Doug Padilla ran a 3:57 mile in Provo, elevation 4500 ft. He is the only person to break 4 minutes in Utah.
Berryhill ran 3:45 1500 at 5000'
Dave,
Actually, Marcus never did run sub-4. He came close probably 10 times. Ask him about his sub-2 800 record though. It may have ended recently but I think he broke 2:00 indoors or out for 20 years straight...
But, has any Native Idahoan broke 4:00 anywhere? Not the 1500 equivalent but the real deal...
somebody at some point last year posted a website on dyestat that listed the fastest mile times ever run in each state. I have no clue what the site is now though, if i find it i'll post it
There's no full mile races in washington state so its pretty hard to achieve the sub4.
The above site has the US sub 4's all time. 2002 is the last year posted so it is missing a few. (Like Grant Robison)
Interesting fact: Out of the first five Americans to break 4 minutes, three of them grew up in Oregon! Jim Grelle, Dyrol Burleson, and Keith Forman.
And to Dave: Rich Bergeson was the first and last Idahoan to break 4:00 in 1987. He finished second to Phil Wallinger(4:15) in the state 1600m way back in 1982. (answered my own question)
No Idahoan has ever run sub 4:00 on Native soil...
OK, I did the research, here is a list of the fastest miles ever run in each state that has had a Sub-4.

A couple of you guys did great research. Thanks.
If certified road miles count, a sub-4 has been run in HI. Late 90's.
A few sub-4:00's get run every winter at U Washington's indoor facility.
way to go "The Answer" that is a great list!
I agree! Thanks!
I'm sure the other 14 states must have times under 4:05.
