Oregon paper calls out Letsrun over "wheels fell off" comment.

Misspelled Oregonian too.

to me, what binder did is not unusual at all. smaller cities and states often write stories in this manner and they are writing to the people of those cities or states, so yes there is an angle.

but for a world wide website, and this one is truly world wide, to write such an obvious slam on one of our top runners, someone who millions of girls idolize is rediculous. i don't think they even know how subjective they are with coverage of certain individuals. if they would have been covering. the words they chose were deliberate and it reflected their personal view of the runner and the system that the runner is a part of. as I said, there are millions of young girls with kara's poster in their roooms who use her for inspiration and dream to do half of what she has.

damn brojos, you are losing class as time goes on. you would think making money off of it would be enough for you guys, but now you have to put your opinions into everything. that will likely be the downfall of your website. that and letting the trolls run rampant.

Or not. Most runners are not like the clientele of this website. The vast majority of runners haven't a clue the names of any of the world class athletes. And for the 12 girls who visit this website, 11 of them go straight to the boards and never read the brojos articles in the first place. and the other one is txrunnergirl.

The Oregonian has a well-known culture of fawning over the athletes it covers. The beat writers shamelessly kiss the ass of whomever they are covering, whether it be Salazar or the Trailblazers.

Doug Binder is a reporter that puts out his "spin" for Nike athletes.

It is funny that Doug, AlSal, and Vin aka Nike are trying to influence an independent website "content" of Nike AlSal athletes is ridiculus. I am sure they are the ones reading the message boards and post comments defending all things AlSal and Nike.

If NIke wants a positive spin and only uplifting great stories of AlSal athletes then let them post them on Nike website...

millions? There aren't even millions of "young girls" involved in distance running in the US, much less millions who even know who Kara Goucher is. If Nike could sell a million Kara Goucher posters (to anybody at any age) per year, KG woudl be among the highest paid female athletes in America. Only top-golfers and tennis players would make more.

I agree with the "wheels were never there to begin with" angle.

Maybe Goucher didn't tank, but no one can argue that she lived up to the hype. When you run a full 2 to 3 minutes slower than your camp was (foolishly) predicting, you're going to get some well-deserved criticism.

I want to say this without reading the piece that was rewritten that was cited above me. They (brojos) reference the comment "The wheels came off," with "so to speak" meaning that they "looked" like they "may" have come off. You have to realize that "Wheels coming off" can and will mean different things for different people. Also, they said that they THOUGHT her last 1k MAY have been 4:10 meaning it's speculation and not fact. The problem is not with how the letsrun staff wrote the article but rather with how the readers interpreted and understood it. People will see what they want to see.

Isn't this the same sycophantic guy who kisses the ass of every good runner in that area? No surprise that he'd make a point of defending a top Oregon runner, even if it's against charges from such a lowly source as Letsrun. Letsrun should call him out for never questioning any top Oregon runner or the circumstances surrounding Salazar, NOP, Rupp, U of O, and Smith's firing.

If the "Wheels come off" so to speak or any other way, it is obvious that that person could not have won the race. Therein lies the problem with using that phrase.

Other than that error, I didn't see anything wrong with what either side wrote. Apparently the kilometer markers were off which could/did lead to erroneous conclusions..

You wrote a piece, but you didn't comment on your supposed unfair coverage of Rupp. Care to address Lananna and Salazar's concerns?

Especially after both Vin Lananna and Alberto Salazar took me aside at NCAAs to express their belief that we are unfair in our coverage of Galen Rupp (and perhaps presumably Salazar's other athletes), I definitely need to comment on this.

This why Vin has pumped his own money into Runnerspace. It is biased towards Oregon. He basically tells them what the content should be.
