A runners worth can easily be measured by a clock.

Webb ran 4:12, 2:23 on a flat track.

Andrews ran 1:52, 2:22 on a banked track.

I'd say that is fairly even. You would think Webb would have been a bit more excited to see another up-and-comer.

What event did Andrews run 1:52 in yesterday? Was there a HS 4x8 or open 8? His last 800m of the 1k was 1:52 but where did he run 1:52 yesterday other than within the 1k?

A REAL runner, a fan of the sport, should always be excited to see fast guys coming up...

Realize that Webb said this in passing and not at a press conference. Sure, he's naive to think that a Brojo wouldn't post the quote, but he felt comfortable enough to be real for a split second.

You may have a point, but I'm pretty sure the context of the comments was correct. Which was "yeah, BUT I ....." instead of "That's pretty cool".

Everyone knows MJ did not want to lose his 200m record to Bolt last summer, but he lost it with some class, and that is MJ. We're talking a very legit mark that stood for over a decade. An outdoor 200M WR. How often is that run? And how big is MJ's ego?

Now you have Webb losing an indoor 1K record (not to take away from Robbie) and making excuses why his record wasn't faster. Well, as someone else pointed out, Ryan's record was on cinder in some dogsh#t shoes, so what does that say about Webb's other record. Records break as various forms of progress are made.

I have never gotten into the Webb bashing before, but to see this kind of comment after so many years of just really pathetic inconsistency, more than any man or woman anywhere near his caliber that I can think of, it just boils down to this: no more excuses, make a change. Change your head, change your priorities, change your roommate, change your coach, change your training area. At LEAST change one or two of those, but it might be best to change all of them.

How can you not notice all the progress with young runners going on all around you and NOT think you need to get with the program before you go down in history as the most inconsistent big talent ever in the U.S. Don't let that be the last record you hold Webb.

No, it was on an artificial (asphalt?) surface. Still not as good as the one Webb ran on, I'm sure, but not cinders.

Also - congrats to Sadiki White, his 2:25.99 has kind of gotten lost in the record hoopla. Also, I would not overthink Webbs comments...w/o knowing the full context, facial expression, manner, etc. The initial unedited comments are usually a little difference from the public PC comments that come later. Btw, no matter what athletes say, they are never happy to lose a record and Webb is correct in that his situation was tougher.

I have heard my coach say this plenty of times and lately Webb has been slipping into this category (though I am not writing him off)The older you get the faster you were. Flat track and bank are to different types of running. Its like comparing Germans tyson mile to Lagats on a 165 meter millrose track. Sure German ran faster but he wasn't making a left hand turn every 6 seconds.

How do we know if the poster in question actually spoke with Webb? I'd bet his conversation is bullshit, and I doubt Webb cares all that much about his indoor 1k record going down. He probably would care about his HS mile record though.
