This is as disappointing as it is exciting for me. Im amazed by his run but it has also confirmed my suspicions that his "injury" at NCAAs was mental rather than physical.
We have the technology now to fix people - a man of his abilities probably doesn't have to look far to get aid to heal himself, let alone rest up - stellar time in the mile!

-seriously...where do you fools come from??? do you just pull this crap out of your butt or what???? trust me, he was without a doubt, 110% injured. it wasn't his achilles. it was a calf injury that had bugged him even in high school. did you even see his move to go from in the 20's to the chase pack???? you guys really are nuts here. i know i shouldn't even be posting on this board, but these outlandish statements are just totally bogus.
You fernandez lovers are ridiculous. He obviously way over-played the injury at NCAA's. no matter how fit he was, you just don't recover from a calf/achilles injury THAT fast. If you look, the injury he made it seem like he had was acute. Acute injuries cause severe trauma to the region. If he did indeed have a calf/achilles injury that came on in the process of a short period of time (say a few steps) then odds are, he would have been off training for quite a while. I'm not saying that the guy wasn't hurting at NCAA's, but the way that he dropped out showed that he way overacted. I guarantee he was running within two weeks, which would not have been the case if the injury was as bad as he acted. The guy is an immense talent, but he pussied out, simple as that. He probably moved up the field way too fast, realized he didn't have the juice to keep going, and decided to call it quits. It happens. When things aren't going your way in races, sometimes your mind plays tricks on you. You look for reasons to drop out. Especially when there is a lot of pressure on you. Having been in that position before, I totally understand. I know that all you fernandez lovers/dyestat groupies are going to jump over me for this and call me a pussy, but odds are that I could beat 98% of you in a race, so just save the crap and shut it.
You are absolutely right, I went through this as well. I was supposed to win the state championship in cross country years ago, and I too pussied out. To this day I still hate myself for it, because I know now that I could have taken the pain a little better and finished strong. The mind does play tricks on you.
You guys are SO right. I almost posted about this, but then I pussied out at the last second. Good thing I have strong role-models for Keyboard Jockeys that call out elite athletes on their every misstep right here on Letsrun. I am so lucky, along with all the other internet pussies who have found this site.
