Yup, Bruce Hyde is the guy. Mint Henk runs for N. Arizona, too. Erin Sullivan and Tara Chaplin are from that area of VT, too.
Once the snow melts you'll love Catamount family Center-lots of trains, most of it hilly, but awesome. There's also the aforementioned bike path, and also the Burlington Intervale. That's a nice flat uninhabited area with trails, woods and corn fields. Red rocks is great, too. I also liked the UVM loop around the golf course. I think they might have paved it, though:-( There's also Causeway park, which is an abandoned railway that sticks out 3 miles right into the middle of the Lake. It will take your breath away.
As for tracks, the UVM track is kind of hard and only .1 mile. I hear the one at the Raquet's Edge in Essex is softer and larger.
