The shamrock run in Portland Or gave the winner of the 15k, 8k and 5k races (male and female) their weight in beer.

I got an all expense paid trip to NYC marathon. (This was back in the early 80s)
sucks for those scrawny kenyans that always win it!

At Cresent City classic, its not a prize for winning but the posters they used to give out (maybe still do I haven't run it in years) to the top 500 have to be one of the best mass prizes at a race. Thick stock and generally sold at the race for $50 I think (and worth it)
Nike Outdoor and Nike Indoor give national championship rings to the winners of every event...I thought that was pretty nice. Chile Pepper in Arkansas was nice too. They gave big (24oz) hand-blown glasses (or something like that) to the top 3 in each age group for both sexes. Chile Pepper also had tons of free food and leg rubs afterwards which really made it for me.
I won a date with Miss USA at a race in Branson, MO. I turned her down.
In Coos Bay, OR at the Prefontaine 10k I won a trip to Finland to run with Lasse Viren, I accepted that.
A 5 mile race in Valley Forge gave away framed runner art from http://www.runnerart.com/

Berwick 9 miler in PA gives away diamonds.
DIAMONDS!
It will be the 100th running on Thanksgiving Day this year. Lots of diamonds, even to age group winners. Be there to be part of American road racing history with a longtime Canadian connection on a course with character. The race even has a program, not many road races have that.
A book has just been published "Run for the Diamonds. 100 Years of Footracing in Berwick, Pennsylvania" authored by Mark Will-Weber, published by Breakaway Books
Race for the cure in Portland used to give out Baccarat crystal heart paperweights (yes, women do like that kind of stuff)and some other portland race (can't remember what) gave out high quality mantel clocks. this was back in the '90s and small checks usually came along with the deal as well. other types of good swag included pendelton blankets (fujitsu 5k) and those shamrock run lead crystal steins.
A pre season High school XC race gave out artistic pottery to winning teams a couple of years ago. Actual useful , and /or beautiful stuff beats a plaque, trophy or medal any day.
gift certificates are good too.
I won a 30K in Death Valley, California a couple years ago and received a rubber chicken as my award.
In his autobiography Ron Hill has a picture of a mounted fox's head he received as a prize. Ron, do you still have it on your wall?
Some MLB teams hold 5K runs where the winner gets to throw out the first pitch at the ball game. Nice award if your a fan of baseball and the that team.
I've been lucky enough to win 5 diamonds from the Berwick race...and they are REALLY nice quality diamonds!
DW--what race?
I had a dam on the Housatonic River in CT named after me for a year... they put a sign next to it too
It billed itself as "the race that gives a dam"

I host a race that offers free air travel to Boston and a stay in a nice hotel there. Last two winners have used it the week of Boston and have run very well there.
Did you get that donated? i've been an RD for about 5 years straight and have been trying to find prizes like this for the overall winners.

A friend of mine one one of the Shamrock races a few years ago and got on the teeter-totter with a large coat oconcealing some weights. Not sure how much he added on, but I'm guessing at least a couple of six-packs.
That should be a friend of mine won one of the Shamrock races.
Do you know how I know you are gay?

I finished second in this a few years ago. We were talking with the lady who beat me (a Canadian), and she could only take back so much on the plane. So she offered us four of the cases! Got me hooked on Widmer's.:)
I've won a very low-key race the past two years that gives the winner the newest Ipod Nano.
