Especially considering how well Ndereba ran in NYC last year after the World Champs.

I agree with them that Ndereba wont win.
tergat 8-1 to win because there are so many question marks but a marathon now is based on serious speed and i don't think Tergat possess enough at 39 years of age to win but he might be top 3-5

I am rooting for him as well. This is not about our dreams. It is about a prediction. I normally have great respect for Weldon and Robert but this prediction is not based on knowledge.
I want Rod Dixon to win and Jerry Lawson to finish runner up. I also want Rod Dixon to wear that helmit cam again. I just realize how ridiculous this is and in no way would make it a prediction.
The NYRR are great and that is because of Mary Wittenburg. I think that she is the best leader of the NYRR ever. I include Fred Lebow in that statement. I understand 100% why she keeps hyping Tergat. It is good for her race. It provides hype. That is a good thing. The same was true with the Lance Armstrong show. It was good for the ING New York City Marathon. I even understand why RW and RT and every other publication jump all over the Tergat story. I JUST THOUGHT THAT LETSRUN WAS ABOVE THAT. Usually when we are fed a load of shit, letsrun will not jump on the band wagon. Obviously I am wrong.
Someone is paranoid. It's a freaking prediction. Who cares?
I say Tergat finishes somewhere 3-5 or DNF. He hasn't raced in a while and as we know, "anything can happen in a marathon."
Re: I say Tergat finishes somewhere 3-5 or DNF.
3rd to 5th is realistic - he might do better, but he will not, repeat will not DNF. Dropping out isn't in his DNA. I think he'll be in the mix to the end. He no longer seems to have the rapid turn of pace at the end, but he's one smart and tough racer and knows the course so don't count him out of anything.
The power of NYRR has spilled over to my favorite website. The front page poll agrees with you Weldon. They have Tergat as the second most likely to win. I can't wait to pull this thread back up on Sunday afternoon.
Make sure you pull it back up as well when he does indeed finish in the top 5.
sure will
I heard Usian Bolt was training for the marathon to simply break the world record here.
Its a devious stragety, fastest man alive in the 100/200 and did you see how much he had left at the olympics?
He could easily hold a 10 second pace for miles!

I kind of thought the highlight video was gay.

JUDGEMENT DAY
4th place. Still good enough to crush all of the Americans even at 39.
He ran exactly the time I thought. He will never be able to run 5 minute pace for a marathon again. The only problem was the field was weaker than I thought.
who knows how fast he can still go...who cares, he ran the race and got 4th, which shows he is still competitive.
It was a weird year, the field really got strung out, I was hoping we would have a bigger pack coming into the park and pushing each other.
Looks like the LRC previews were actually pretty accurate. They picked 4 of the top 5 in the men's and 5 of the top 6 in the women's. Sure, there are only a few legitimate contenders, so it's not overly tough to guess at least a few of the top 5 right. But to go 4 for 5 and 5 for 6, people all have to run decent races (not many blowups or DNFs) to place that close to where they're seeded. And this time they all did except Kirui.
Picking Tergat 2nd was probably going out on a limb, though.
