In your post you put almost no value into the coaching. It wasn't working for Chad at Oregon so he's going somewhere where the program will more closely mirror what he did in high school. Of course it's unfortunate that he won't have the same type of training partners as he did in Eugene, but they may be beneficial, in how those guys have a tendancy to hammer the shit out of eachother over and over again. I really hope he bounces back this year.
Are you sure your moniker is D Trickle? From this blasphemous rant I'd say you should change it to D Gushing...I too am in ‘this is probably not a good choice for young Chad’ camp. You can’t side step competition if you want to achieve greatness. No doubt Chad may be feeling the effects of high expectations at Oregon and is trying to give himself a little breathing room. Not a bad move but it could impede his development.This is a huge lost opportunity for Oregon and hopefully turns out to be the best move for Chad.

That's only because you're an obtuse homer. Competing in meets is good, competing in workouts is really not. Chad Hall will still have to face all of the same runners in the region to qualify for nationals. Josh McDougal sure didn't miss much by not going to the popular program in a megaconference. Oregon was probably a bad choice for Hall's running in the first place, just like it will prove to be for many of their FL finalist recruits and just like Stanford was for so many of the really good high school runners who went there. Oregon wants to be a factory like Stanford was, that's as big of an impediment to individual development as anything else is. Kudos to Hall for realizing that his best ultimate best interests lie elsewhere and for acting on that insight. Too many other bright talents unwisely stick with a bad decision rather than admit error and they end up paying the price for it when their running career stagnates.

Chad has to catch up and study now. UC Riverside is hard school to graduate from as part of the UC system. He won't have time to run much. My guess is he will red-shirt this cross country season at least for academic reasons.
You people are stupid. He made a decison to move to another school. Pretty simple and BTW, it was HIS decision to make.
Also, Oregon must have been happy enough to let him go. He is released and eligible to compete right away.

I will tell you that those numbers are near the top end of students at UCR. Like most schools there are smart ones and not so smart ones, unfortunately at UCR, it's skewed to the lower end.
He can compete but the academics are much different at the UCs than at his old school which is why Chad will probably red-shirt one quarter or perhaps red-shirt the entire year. It's best for a young man take care of his education. Sure, he lost one year at his old school but he can catch up with hard work and still accomplish his life goals.
UC schools have been off the standard academic charts, topping all schools academically for decades as a result of the discrimination policies of Stanford, USC, and the Ivy League. The admission standards for foreign applicants are not the same as for U.S. applicants. Foreign applicants who can't get into NTU, KAIST, IIT, Tokyo, Kyoto, etc. are overflowing the UCs now because the top U.S. private schools set secret numerical quotas restricting Asian admissions. The result is that all UC campuses are now 2/3rds Asians.

If you have the talent, the running will be there. In fact, a school with less of a running reputation, but better academically, could take the pressure off the athlete that comes via lots of other top recruits and demanding coaches. The athlete might flourish in a relatively more laid back program.
