I think Solinsky should be added to the 10k field. With his Jovian manhood, he would make the field more competitive, in accordance with USATF rule 10.42.sandra farmer-patrick.niner.
As it stands, he'll probably end up tying Goucher.

Solinksy is a beast! Whoever mentioned a lack of race preparation is spot on. He just tried to bring the pain too early. As he said in his interview, it is a lot harder to run away from the pack than chase someone down.
Last I heard Solinsky challenged Goucher to a mano y mano tug-o-war in the middle of the field on the last day. Goucher is is supposedly wussing out.
You, sir, are nearly correct. Solinsky did challenge someone to said tug-o-war, but it was Joe Driscoll. However, John Chaplin stepped in at the last minute and replaced Driscoll with Adam Goucher.
Chaplin was later spotted with Chris Berman at Rennie's. In a moment of candor, Berman described how he thought Goucher would perform in the 10k: "backbackbackbackbackback... gone!"

Solinsky is over-rated. He was a good collegiate athlete but he is not world class.
If you think he\'s overrated, then so be it, but describing him as a good collegiate athlete is a crock.
How many national titles did he win? My memory isn\'t that good but seem to remember a 5000m outdoor title and a 3000m indoor title and runner-up finish indoors at 3000m. He ran 13:27 outdoors, 7:51 indoors and 13:30 indoors. I\'d say that\'s just SLIGHTLY better than good, wouldn\'t you?
Solinsky is not over rate. If you live in Wisconsin you would see that. Solinsky is one of my best buddies along with Matt Tegenkamp and Jonathon Riley
I recall Ryan Hall never winning one championship till his senior year at the NCAAs

No insult at all intended to Solinsky, but he surely would run more economically if he shed a few pounds. It's like your car would get less miles per gallon if you put a 50-pound weight in the trunk. That's like 2.5 percent of a car's 2,000 pounds. So not suggesting Solinsky lose 50 pounds, but even 2.5 percent of say 160 pounds -- 4 pounds for the mathmatically challenged -- would make some difference. Imagine what 5-10 pounds less might do.
That is not entirely true. I agree that you can get faster by lossing weight, but it matters what kind. If Solinsky lost 4 pounds, and it was in his gut, than yes, your theory would be correct, it would be like a car taking weight off and running faster. But if Solisky lost 4 pounds, and he didnt really have any to lose, he wouldnt be taking 4 pounds off his gut, he would be taking 4 pounds off himself that would count as his POWER/ENGINE to his running, and he would definetly be slower.
I don't dislike the guy, but I fail to see any exciting quality in him. He doesn't really look like a runner so it's kind of hard to identify with him, he talks about pissing excellence and how great he is in some of the interviews and blogs leading up to the trials, then falls victim to poor tactics. And anyone who relies on their teammates to set up a race situation for them is just plain lame. Crying over it is worthless. I think he's a terrifically talented and hardworking athlete, with a little bit of upside still left in him. But I also believe that there are distance runners out there who are farrrr more exciting to watch and to read about than Mr. Solinsky.
he is big but I doubt he has any extra fat to lose- muscle mass maybe. I wonder how much lifting they do- in his case it may be counterproductive.

Elgerd:
Did you run under the infamous Rick Witt? I used to love those pastel Adidas he wore. Did he have a closet full of them or did he know Adi Dassler personally? Did you all have to try to run under 1:54 in the 800 or you were considered a total POS?
I remember running in an 800 at Point in a last chance meet where the 800 had like 3 pacers and one of the Point athletes qualified for DIII nationals there, I was laughing so hard I almost puked. I also ran a heat in the WIAC 800 one year with 5 Pointers. The stench was enough to cause me to drop out after a lap. Just kidding.
But Arnie Schraeder had to be the toughest hombre' I've ever seen.
Solinsky is the only man alive with the potential in the decathlon to break the event record for both the 1500m and the shot put. A worthy goal for 2009.
Some loser started a thread about Well Wishes for Solinsky at Dyestat. Fat lot of good that did for Chris. Cults of personality do not make runners. Good tactics and hard training do. Live with it.
i go way back- ran for Point with Don Amiot at the helm.
Perhaps Solinsky belongs in the steeple- 3000 is the perfect distance, he has height, and is strong as a bull.
Arne was incredible. Could have run as a pro and who knows how fast.
Don't forget that Solinsky won a 5,000 meter NCAA title, running the last mile in 4:01. He's got talent, and he's not overrated. He's young. Many gold medalists have watched the Olympics after their first trials from the couch. The world will be hearing much more from Chris Solinsky.
Just a quick question how his steeple debut went?
has he already done a steeple race? where was he suppose to run it?
he tore his acl before racing
This thread was a failed attempt to make Chris Solinsky a Chuck Norris "figure". End of Thread.
Solinsky was unreal at the high school level, arguably the best ever from Wisconsin. He was damn good at the college level, among the best to compete for Wisconsin. Notice a pattern? The guy really needed to get out of Wisconsin. Give him a chance.

It didn't really matter what he did last fall, he was fat.
Wow, this guy called it way back in 2008!
