He does belong in Bejing. To suggest that Nick Symmonds is not one of the top three 800m runners in the US is preposterous.
I agree. He's obviously earned his top-3 ranking in the past year. But that's not how we pick the team, and there's not an easy answer about the fairest way to do it that also allows our best runners to peak at the Olympics. This year in particular there are a slew of guys who could conceivably run under 1:45, and I think they deserve a shot to make the team.
I guess I'd like to see the Trials/US Championships pushed as far into the summer as possible. I've never liked the idea of Olympic roster appointments.
