Grant Robison - 3:37 @ Jerome. Will this get him into the Trials?

Grant should be in. There are a few guys ahead of him that won't run the 1500. He is in the top 30 anyway and will be in the heats.

The olympics was an experience for him. He was injured but went to Athens and represented his country well. He is an experienced Olympian and that will come in handy if he makes the team this year.

The guy retired last year after enduring "poor" performances due to the lingering effects of plantar facitis and changes in his life.

He is a very determined athlete and I for one will be cheering for him each time he runs by the East Grandstands.

the man hours to do so are so high that to update performance lists any quicker (say less than seven days) would result in less officials being sent to China to observe the Olympics.

He is tied with Jeff See for 29th/30th in 3:40.76. They both are into the Trials for sure. After them, it will be interesting to see if any of the Wisconsin guys get accepted?

So now Lukezic and Robison (and any other players) need to make sure the final goes sub-"A" standard pace.

I sent a follow-up email to Glen and got the following reply:

"If his 3:40.76 is in the top 30 of declared runners at the close of declarations, he will be in the field."

Let me see if I'm following this correctly. Even though Grant has run 3:35.75, that was in 2003. So he obviously can't count that as his qualifying time into this year's Trials. Nor can he use the 3:37.22 from Harry Jerome, as that performance also came outside the qualifying window. Instead, he has to nail bite it out with the 3:40.76 he ran in Hillsdale back in April. And if he does get into the Trials, to make the Olympic team again he must run the Oly A standard of 3:36.6 during our Trials -- even though the IOC allows until July 23 (for individual events), even then allowing for requests to made for individuals who hit the A standard between July 23 and July 30, stipulating the request be made by July 31 at the latest? Is that what's going on here? If so, does this mean we're going to see some fast semifinals or will Robison and others who haven't hit the Oly A standard set the final up perfectly for Webb by ensuring a 3:36.6 or better pace?

The new rules will make for a very fast trials. I think most will likely wait until the finals to go for that standard. I expect to see someone like Jennings lead the pack through in 1:56 or so.

Who is Robison training with these days? Is he training with Warhurst or on his own?

I don't like that rule at all. Athletes have known about it for a long time, so it's not like they only had a couple months notice. But, I still don't like it. In the past, I've read that athletes most like to go for the standard AFTER the trials, because it promotes a better peak schedule. If they feel this way, then the USATF committee shouldn't become a barrier to it.

Doubt it will work.

As his 3:37.22 already shows as his seed time, and then says updated beside it, why would you doubt it would "work".

USA Track Trials Site list Qualifing times as a base for entry. Qualifing times must come in qualifing window. If selected current 2008 times count for seeding. GR must get in on best time from Q window same as everyone else..

BS - usatf can decide to do anything at any point. It is ridiculous. qualifying window closed on the 15th and some competitiors don't know whether they're in or not for the Olympic Trials! That, and the fules are constantly changing with the old farts who run the show!
