What it probably means is, he won't kick with the top group in the olympics, if he makes it. But really, we knew that about our guys anyway. We can probably only hope for a Tim Broe type of 2004 race (against the 2nd group), with a higher finish.
Is there any doubt that rupp was probably a sub 4 miler when he went 27:33 last year? Or when he ran 7:49 for teh AJR as a frosh? The best runners at other distances, won't run their off events at their peak. Rupp's running 1500's now which means almost nothing.
I don't believe Rupp even ran a metric mile last year did he? I agree though that if he wants to be competitive he'll need to better his short speed. But hey, we can only ask so much. 27:33 would be worth dying for for most runners. That's such a huge accomplishment. To be competetive for a medal, he needs to drop a minute off his 10k time which is almost unfathomable. If he get's down to 27:05 by the time he retires, one should consider that a huge accomplishment for an American. I know we shouldn't limit ourselves, but it seems people are always to critical of hte kid and he's already done the almost unthinkable.
