I hear what you're saying, but Ritz is signed up to run the two-mile, which seems strange for a guy who's supposed to be coming off a fairly recent injury and in the throes of marathon training. On the other hand, he could jump into just about any 10k and run low-28s at any point during his buildup. So why not just run one, not all out, this weekend? A better fit for the marathon and he could cruise a sub-28:20 if that's all he really needs.

One other card Chaplin could pull:

the current US national cross country champion card.

Just checked start list for PRE. Summerside not listed in 2mile as stated in video from flotrack. Did he have a set back?

i am not sure how this works, but j. torres won nationals in his debut. i do know that in marathons that supposedly have a qualifying time like fukuoka (Qualifying time of 227)

proven runners are allowed to run without a qualifying time, example sammy wanjiru and derba mergia both made their marathon debuts at fukuoka. and in the boston marathon k. bekele and meseret defar would be allowed to debut at boston if they wanted to. i am not saying ritz is in the category (not yet anyways) except torres. but the race directors have a lot of freedom to let in who they want. and qualifying times and having to get an entry in on time does not apply to proven runners. example if 2 days before the london marathon k. bekele said he wanted to be a last minute entry, dave bedford would let him in the race, he would not tell him it is to late for this year but put in your entry and you might get in next year.

basically there are 2 sets of rules 1 for top runners and 1 for everybody else. and that is how it is and how it should be.

This is not a private race like Boston or London, OT's are a public race open to any US citizen (who is affliated to USATF) that can run the qualifying time.

Turn the situation from selection to non-selectiion. If Dave Bedford didnt want Joe buttcrack to run because he didnt like his name, he could reject his entry. This wouldn't be possible in the OT's, Joe ran the time, he has a right to run the race.

but he is planning on running the olympic TRIALS 10000 which one must qualify for... hence the debate.

I believe Shannon Butler sued USATF after he was left out of the 1996 Olympic Trails 10000m in favor of a slower qualifier.

You mean, didn't I already read the article from the link on the front page, and the answer is no. Nobody said anything about Ritz not running this weekend on THIS thread until after I had posted. Nice editing skills though.

Correct OT is base subject But tied into the- Get Into --is that coming out of the trials he (anyone) must have OG A Q to go to OGs. At this point if he gets in he MUST run OG A at trials to get on 10,000 team.

I think field size at 24 is OK but entrants just running for National title, not a place on the 10,000 team should not count toward the 24 constraint. Truth I have not followed latest updates and changes super close but I remember him saying he would run Marathon only. Please note Qtime given is clearly labeled OG A standard.
