uhh Vaughn won by 9sec so he obviously wasn't pressed as much as some guy who got beat....
A better example is Neuman who was only about 30sec off his PR.
Looking at the men's 5k and 10k it is very obvious that Colorado had an altitude advantage.

It was fairly breezy on the night for the 5k. 10k was a bit more calm. Vaughn did not pull away from the field until a bit of the way in. Something like about 2k or later before he put the hammer down a bit.
In the 10k the Buffs took off hard over the first 200m and just kept the pressure on the whole field the entire way. The top finishers cruised in near the end with nobody sprinting.
You can't evaluate any of these performances much unless you watch the actual race.
The 5k was fun to watch though. CU just put everyone in the race that they had. The only one that really wilted was Billy Nelson but he ran a great steeple earlier in the night so it was very understandable.
The altitude can be a bear. Sea-level guys get into trouble before they know it, then it is too late. The effect can be quite a bit, however a good dry day at altitude will not feel bad compared to high humidity at sea-level.
The Big 12 should represent itself well at NCAAs
ummm, looking at the 5/10k results i don't see that their was a "clear advantage" i see that the Buffs have the deepest distance squad in the Big 12's and showed up. Go complain somewhere else. No advantage needed, just a full on ass whoopin'. A&M fans go back to shitty Texas and stop hijacking the boards.
Nobody mentioned a fact that is highly significant: Pifer had a 1500/5k double that to say the least is quite remarkable. It looks as if Pifer has really been preparing for the 5,000m and if that's so and he's dropping times like he is, he has to be in hella shape for the 5 going into nationals. OMG CU could go 1-2!!
