BAN ON HALF TIGHTS FOR DISTANCE RUNNERS

I agree. i've worn them a few times and found them to be too heat restricting in warm weather ,and too much pressure on my left ITB,(believe, it or not).

They are great for cycling as a previous poster stated.

A few weeks ago people were decrying that Nick symmonds did have the body of a runner, at the Boston Indoor.(USATF)?

I don't care what I look like; I'd love to be as fast as he.Point being,unless you are extremely slender, like KR,or muscular with long legs and arms ,like a decathlete, they do make some runners look frumpy. I don't pay attention to bulges.

The worst about bicycle shorts is when runners wear their singlets outside their bicycle shorts. It makes some look like they have beer bellies.

And most major sports, have strict rules, about keeping uniform shirts tucked into uniform pants.

I will sleep tonight ,though.

Half tights are what we wore years back (10 or so) when typical Michigan weather would make an appearance. They are great for when it's just cool enough to think about pants, but you wanna run fast, or just don't want to wear pants.

With the shorts made then you would end up getting a bit of a frozen u-know-what. With the tights holding more heat this didn't happen. This was especially true during Cross.

As for racing, if you're more comfortable in them, why not? We all have our superstitions; if you're concentrating on the shorts of the guys you're racing instead of your race, you're not running hard enough.

Listen, I'm old enough to be the OP's father if I'd started early, am not and never was very fast, and generally couldn't give a rat's ass what other guys wear.

But I fully agree with him: these half tights and especially the f***ing capris are an abomination that reflect badly upon the entire brotherhood of runners. It's one thing to have no shame or style; it's another to dress like such a colossal douche the rest of us cringe, feel guilty by association, and almost want to go out and apologize to the public on behalf of the 95% of runners who aren't like that.

Personally, I watch the ladies, choose to wear shorts, and don't care either way about half tights.

(the capri tights do look a tad bit queer now that it has been brought to my attention - especially if it is warm enough for just a singlet; have you ever seen those jammers that wear long tights but go shirtless? That is inconceivable)

i kind of agree - there is no need for men to wear tights

it is so euro trash (i know i lived there for too long)

makes sense to me. wearing half-tights in a 10k is exponentially worse than wearing them in the 5k, so you have to be much faster to get away with it. i wear them for the 800m sometimes, but nothing above. i understand people wearing them for up to the mile, but over that is beyond me. shorts were good enough for wilson and hicham, and i will roll over and die the day i see bekele racing in some half tights.

I'm 6'0 and weigh 150. My thighs rub like a fat girl at the Golden Corral buffet. They don't do it so bad when I'm not in a lifting phase but once the lifting starts it burns like your momma gave me an std. I could care less about how my package looks, especially while I'm racing.

If half tights are ok for cold weather, why the need to add anything? The only reason to wear shorts over the tights is purely cosmetic, and if anything, would make the whole combination a little more uncomfortable. Half tights keep me warm, I wear them to keep me warm, and I don't need shorts to cover them up.

Same reason I wear a hat, to keep the sun or rain out of eyes. Does it really matter what they look like? They get the job done.

Here's an idea, if you don't like half tights, don't wear them. Quit worrying so much about other people, who cares what they wear.
