I'm glad to see McD in the 10k here and there, but he is a 5k runner through and through and he needs to realize that. sub 4 mile speed and an XC champ, 13:20? yeah dude.
And Scott is training for the 5k at the trials. I read in an interview that he wanted to run the sub 4 mile at the Chico Invite because 1)It's in Chico in front of Chico fans (which he said if it weren't for all of them cheering him on he doesn't think he could have gone under 4) and 2) to gain speed for the trials because he knows the final mile will be very fast.
Pretty sure Scott is doing both 10 and 5 at trials if he gets both qualifiers.
yeah, i dont really ever see McD run, so you are probably right that he is a 5k guy. but i am pretty sure scotty is running the 10k for the trials, just in talking to his coach. but that may have changed, i dont really know. it is a fun year to be a track fan though and i am gonna watch them battle tonight!
oh, and whoever said scotty was a dick is the dick. he is a freakin good guy and owes some of his success to charlie serrano since he was training with the guy for 3 years. if you had been there, you would have seen that it was genuine and not a dick move. when you are at a championship and you are going 1-2 as a team, you shouldnt care who is first or second, just that you are getting the points. at least that is one of the things i learned in college.

Furthermore, I would expect that Scott Bauhs would realize that "letting" Charlie Serrano win a race would be a hollow victory for Charlie.
Crossing the finish line with a teammate is the "team" thing to do. Slowing down and moving to lane 4 is showboating.

When you are at a regional or conference championship, then go ahead and let your teammate win. When it's for the national championship, then the best man wins.

I've talked to charlie plenty of times and he is proud of his title... he ran a hell of a race that day and bounced back from some early season IT band problems that probably kept him from running a lot faster that season. Scotty did NOT move to lane 4, thats a little off, they came off the turn with Scotty on the outside and he came in stride for stride with charlie just backing off slightly at the end. They had talked about it before the race hoping that was how the race would play out and it worked out. Scotty will probably win more national titles, he could live without 1. He is a team first guy and a class act, don't try to bring him down because you have some grudge agaisnt him or something.
Beware of Australian Collis Birmingham, I know he is having a run over there, and after his run in Carlsberg, he's looking good.
Contrast what you say (outside lane and stride for stride at the finish) with what the previous poster said (120 yards out Bauhs moves to lane 4) and you'll see why I posted what I posted
Your scenario is more acceptable, and if true, then I retract what I say about Bauhs. Believe me, I don't know the guy and he's probably not a dick. However, if the description provided by the first guy is right, then it reminds me of Stember flying throught he finish like an airplane, which, in my opinion, is something a dick would do.

how can scott not compare to mcdougal. scotts pr is from a whole year ago. he has to have some amazing strength right now. after running that half marathon, then running a pr in japan for 10k road. then finishing his cross season just a few weeks ago in Scotland with a 12k.. and still managing to break 4min just a week or two later. i bet he runs 13:20. which is what mcdougal ran last year. mcdougal can probably run faster but to say that they cant be compared is bull. should be a fun race to watch.

No i agree, maybe not with the guarantee, scotty would have to fight for it, but I think he would have legitimate chance at winning D1s. but then again this debate shouldn't continue because we have no way of proving he could or couldn't.
