Rupp has the 3k record (8:03) eventhough Nelson went by the 3k en route a 2 mile in 7:58.
The NCAA has come down on people for taking gifts (solicited or unsolicited). I'd say it is an issue to be concerned with.
Fout is going after the State Meet record in the 2 mile (3200) that Chapa holds.
He isn't going after the 10k. At least not yet.
Chapa also holds the Indiana State Meet 1600 record. 4:04 I think.

You weren't really partially right. I and others only stated he held the 3k and 5k record. You for some reason decided to add the bit about him not having the HS 10k record at the end of your message even though no one said he did. You could put "Bekele does not hold the US mile record" at the end of every one of your posts and i guess you could always say you are partially right but that just wouldn't make any sense.
Gerry Lindgrens 5000m record is the indoor record, Galen Rupp has the outdoor record with a 13:37.

Gerry Lindgrens 5000 record (13:44), was an outdoor record set in 1964 (Compton, CA). Brad Hudson has the high school indoor record (14:29).
Chapa was just one of the three boys from Hammond HS who broke 9:00--for the full two-mile run--in the same outdoor season. The others were Tim Keogh and Carey Pinkowski.
The same trio went 1-2-5 in Indiana's State HS x-c meet the previous fall. Hammond still lost the meet!

For the record, the reason I mentioned the 10k was that it was the basis of my confusion. I was under the impression (incorrectly) that his 5k was run near the time of his 10k and was thus treated the same in regards to records. I didn't say anything about anyone else mentioning the 10k, only that I was correct in stating that his 10k was a junior record and not a HS record. I wasn't trying to correct anyone else. You somehow grossly misinterpreted that.
I'm glad a nice thread about Mike Fout chasing some very highly respected track records could devolve into this. I should expect no less from this board, I suppose.

In terms of rupp, I think too much is made of the advantages he receives from his current situation. Its not like such perks are unheard of or that he is the only one who has ever been the recipient of such arguable advantages.
I think Walter Dix will be gone when Fout gets there, won't he?

Not only did it happen in the same season, but I think it happened in the same week. I remember reading an article about it where Pinkowski broke 9:00 and had the #1 time in the nation. By the next week he was #3 ON HIS TEAM!!
In the state i'm from, they wiped the books when
changing over from 2m to 3200, so Chapa wouldn't even be the 3200m record holder!!

"With the outdoor season approaching, I have my sights set on some goals that must be met for me to call my season a success, no matter what happens. I am striving to run the state record in the 3200 meter run. Not the state meet record of 8:55.1, but the overall state record of 8:48, which belongs to the great Rudy Chapa. He and I grew up in the same area, so there is an even closer connection. Along with the state record, I would love to repeat as the state champion in the 3200m. The prime situation would be for me to get the state record some time before the state finals, and then be able to double at the state meet and run the 1600m and 3200m. These goals are lofty, I know, but I honestly feel that I can reach them."
