Well I'm not in America, and neither is the vast majority of the world's population.

Yes I did really include Michael Johnson and Carl Lewis, because if you ask anyone except an American middle or long distance running fan, they will tell you that Johnson or Lewis are far far far more famous than Prefontaine, and considered to be runners because they run, fast.

Are you seriously suggesting that someone running a fast first 200 in an indoor NCAA DMR, which the rest of the world don't even run, is more exciting than 19.32 or Lewis and Powell Long Jump in 1991, or Lewis vs Ben Johnson?

Saying that it's stupid to run the first 200 too quickly and fade at the end isn't an "I know everything" attitude; it's just a bald statement of fact. If I'm watching the last ten seconds of a basketball game and somebody hoists up a twenty-foot three when they're down by one and have a man open under the basket, it's not a "know everything" attitude to say it was a stupid decision; it's just the truth.

yeah, that's phenomenal. all coaches should start teaching their athletes that it would be much more impressive to sprint the first 1/8th of their race. we could make every race like the middle school 1 mile run in gym class. i mean, you may have to walk the last 200m, but at least you looked "impressive" at first.

To the real STFU: Pretend you ignored my posts, there are plenty of other intelligent posts as to why it was foolish to run your first 200 that fast, you just neglected to acknowledge them. Your credibility was thrown out the window when you said Pre was the most famous runner ever.

Just for fun, he split 4:01.34 and finished 6th at 9:35.72. The Arizona St. miler split 3:58.13, and finished 2nd in 9:32.49. LSU received 3 points for 6th place and Arizona St. received 8. They received the baton at the same (actually .02 difference) time so please tell me how that fast 200 helped LSU. Arizona St. won the meet by running smart while LSU ended up 4th. Which by your "rationale" is a great finish. Pre, the most famous runner ever, finished 4th by running smart so I guess you're spot on!

Yes, because that's an extremely relative arguement. You've never run fast therefore you can't possibly know what you're talking about. Let it die dude, you're wrong.

actually your wrong... the faster someone is the more there going to know about competing at a high level of intensity. It doesnt take a genius to realize that someone who has run a 3:59 mile is going to know more about running sub 4 then someone who has run a 4:30 mile. But if you really want to settle this then we can just race? be my guest any distance you want...heck ill bet you 100 dollars that I could even beat you in the 100 meters.

no matter what this kid (shut the F up guy) claims to have done, its obvious he has NOT competed at this level. My PR for the mile is 4:07 so I wasn't quite national class but even i know what the LSU guy did is stupid. Any one with any experience racing knows this. trying to argue that it wasnt a mistake is just not very intelligent.
