The lawsuit certainly was the talk of the town here in San Diego and the USA XC championships. Let's hope the lawsuit reveals the crookery and cleans up USATF. Transparency is what USATF need. LA, Sac, Stanford, want the Outdoor champs, and OT and I hope will soon be able to bid again.
Is it true that that the company that did the timing at the Cross-Country Trials are associated with Glenn Latimer!!!. If true = BIG conflict of interests, especially if the meet organizers were coerced into accepting this company.

Hayward field and The City of Eugene is well on it's way to being the permanent site for the U.S. Olympic Trials, USATF and NCAA outdoor championships, USATF and NCAA indoor championships, and USATF and NCAA Cross Country Championships. Phil Knight will pay for everything and other towns will no longer have to burden their taxpayers and politicians with hosting championships any longer. SAC put on the best Trials of any city in the last 30 years. Eugene simply cannot compete. Does anyone doubt that USATF knew their leader was going to NIKE when the 2008 Trials were awarded. This has sullied their reputation beyone repair.

Thats the way it is, and the way it's going to be I'm afraid for the next 10 years at least. Money talks, and Nike is the only one speaking seriously. The OT's are only the beginning. Track Town USA will be the headquarters for all track and field in the USA. USATF is rumored to be moving it's offices to Eugene, the announcement might be made at the OT. Isn't that what we all wanted for decades, to have serious giga money, and serious people, backing our sport. Think about how much poorer we used to be. I don't think Eugene will dominate forever, as serious money appears from other sources to rival Nike, opportunities will arise in other geographic areas, but until then, it's Track Town USA and Eugene that will dominate. It's up to everyone else to challenge Eugene and Nike for the dominant role which it has attained. How long will it take for some other company, town, or entity to come along, perhaps 10 year, maybe 20 years. I really hope it will be f'ing tomorrow ! I mean what ever happened to all the big talk that AEG/Home Depot made ? Where's the 40,000 seat IAAF regulation stadium they promised ? The sooner someone comes along and challenges Eugene and Nike the better it will be for track and field, but until then, Eugene and Nike will dominate. That's the way it is.

I have gone to every oly trials or TAC/USATF outdoor champs since 1988. Truly the worst spectator experiences I've ever had are the 2000 and 2004 oly trials. I travel through the Sac area frequently and even volunteer/assist at various track, xc and road race events in the Sac area, but the bad taste left in my mouth left by the previous 2 trials makes me rejoice at the fact that 2008 and hopefully any future trials will not ever occur in Sac.

Very sorry to hear that. I was at both 2000 and 2004 trials and they were well-run and well-attended. They were great spectator experiences for me.
If true this is an antitrust lawsuit waiting to happen.

I agree with Oh...no... I live in Sac, and I'm glad Sac didn't get the trials again. In Eugene I won't be told to sit down and not have fun. Come on, people were thrown out of the stadium in 2000 for standing up and cheering during the 5000 final. Then on very hot afternoon during the decathalon in 2004, people were told to sit down while they were on thier way to the bathroom. Sac town doesn't deserve the trails....

As I stated before, the USATF/Nike rusty trombone situation disgusts me. That said, Eugene is easily the best place in the country for a track meet. 2004 sucked. There's a reason people call it Excremento. As much as I enjoyed dodging vagrants on the canal (the only place to run in Sacto) I am definitely looking forward to going to the market on the corner of 19th and Agate (one block from Hayward), buying Moose Drool Beer, sneaking it in - duct taping it to my cock if necessary, and enjoying the 2008 Olympic Trials.
But the US has a long way to go in general. Sac, Eug, Car are not premier stadiums nor world class destinations, and Sac & Eug are not IAAF regulation tracks. The experience, the crowd, the majesty of the USA OTs, pales in experience to the IAAF WCs, European Championships, Asian Championships.
To make it IAAF regulation, all events must be in the main stadium, no separate venue for the throws. A 2-3 meter wide apron between the outside of the track needs to encircle the entire track so that there is room for people to get around safely during the hammer throw and other events. Sac, Penn, Mt Sac, Eug, Stanford, Penn doesnt't have it. Carson, Austin does. Plus there has to be so many seats, permanet toilets, etc.
Opps, Car is a world class destination but no perm toilets, and the stands are temporary structures. I've never been to Icahn, so you tell me. What I am trying to say is the U.S.A. OTs are not as great a show and a production as the other major world and continental champs that I've been to all over. And it SHOULD be after all the USA won 26 medals at Osaka 2007, 25 at Helsinki 2005, we have the #1 track team in the world, too bad we don't have the #1 showcase for our team.
When the temperature never dips below 100 for the entire 8 days at Hayward Field, awarding the OT to Eugene prematurely for 2012 will look pretty stupid. Sure it's hot in the middle of the afternoon in Sacramento, but it cools off fast.

Sac was 100F for the OT's and NCAA's but with dry humidity it's like L.A. inner-city summers w/o the smog, where I grew up. Osaka 2007 was terrible every day with high humidity. Helsinki 2005 rained for most of the days. Eugene is pleasant but we know it will rain at least one day.
