I think you're missing my point and just want an excuse to call someone a pussy. I'm guessing you are also one of those guys who shout "fag" out your car window at some unsuspecting dude for no particular reason. You're safe in your car, just like you are safe behind your computer.

The answer to the original question is really pretty simple: musicians make what people will buy. Look at the Plain White T's, for example, just since they've been a common topic of discussion here recently. They've been making more rock based music for years with a pretty small following. When did they become famous? That's right, when they put out a sappy love song. Not that the Plain White T's are an example of a great band or anything, but this is an example of the evolutionary forces that are at work in music.

Music is just like any other product. You make what you can sell. At the moment, three chord rock guys with cliche lyrics make more money than kick ass jazz or classical guitarists. Does this make the alternative guys better? Not really. But it does make them more adapted to the environment in which they are trying to make a living.

That's exactly right. And the music industry executives are quite clever. They saw parents reactions to metal back in the 80s and 90s and thought "The parents are the ones with the buying power. Obviously, the kids are into metal. But if we want to really rake in the big bucks, we've gotta make the parents a little more comfortable with it. Not only that, but if we polish it a little we can make it appeal to more kids. If we can figure out a way to mainstream metal and make it safer, we'll make more money."

Modern popular rock music is controlled by the radio and MTV.

Ozzfest still goes on. In 2007 they had Static X, Ozzy Osbourne, Lamb Of God, Hatebreed, Lordi, Behemoth, Mondo Generator, Nile, Ankla, Circus Diablo, The Showdown, 3 Inches Of Blood, Daath, Chthonic and In This Moment.

Firstly, MTV has blown for at least a generation.

Secondly, it seems odd to me to call something "faggy" and "vaginal". Are these terms meant to be synonymous? When you use the epithet "faggy", aren't you displaying your antipathy to homosexual men? But then to use "vaginal" as a derogatory term suggests that you are misogynist. One assumes that you "like" straight men. But they don't, by definition, "like" you back. So you find solace in metal. Hmm. Now I see what it is that permanent teenager men like about metal, sort of.
