Honestly, I couldn't imagine going for a 5 1/2 hour run.
I've never run longer than 2:30 for a long run and I was feeling pretty dead-legged by the end. The fact that a "non-runner" can go for such a long duration is impressive to me. It's slow as molasses but it does require some mental toughness. Good for her.
Well 12:35 per mile for 26 miles is 4.78 mph which is potentially even faster than molasses, but one can't be sure.
Perhaps she is trying to turn her 5.5 hour run into a sub-4 hour run...

No way, man, in Boston molasses moves quick! In 1919 a molasses tank burst in the North End, sending 2 million gallons through the streets, killing 21 and injuring 150. The molasses waves moved at 35 mph -- Katie wouldn't of stood a chance! Just another reason why Boston isn't for the faint of heart.
Do I think the fast guys get too little attention - yes. Do I think she got too much attention - yes. But let's not knock her. How many people posting here have run a marathon before? I bet half who posted under this topic have never run 26.2 miles.
Think about it.

No ding dong, in GENERAL. You can't get from point A to point B without taking a few steps in between.
Maybe Boston should let more celebs run... they certainly aren't getting their pick of the elite runners these days.

Why would they care? They can get there by qualifying, or they can get there with a charity. They can even line up at the back with the rest of the bandits.
Man, I'd run behind her for the full distance 5.5 hours notwithstanding. Despite the fact she married a freak she is a hot looking woman with nice teets, I mean teeth.
