I like the concept but just a tad unbelievable for many many reasons. Good effort though it just doesn't have any staying power since no one is buying it.

The track was definitely 440y, I don't see why any school would have a track built that wasn't either 440y or 400M.
I don't see why, either, but it happens. There is an asphalt track in my city that even has all of the lines painted in for starts and relay takeovers, but it is about 350 metres (after running one blazing workout there I knew it was short, and used a bike odometer to get a rough measure). That buys you 200 less distance to the mile, of course, and a lot of really-good-not-great runners could do 1400 in 4:00. That's my theory for this clip.
As people have mentioned, anyone who has been around the sport for a while knows what a 60 sec quarter looks like, and they're not doing that.
Who gave the film a 4 star rating on YOUTUBE. Somebody believes this happened. I say it was a solid 4:15 mile. If it was a 4:15 mile it is probably the fastest mile ever run on that track, but it nothing to right home about at even the NCAA D2 level.
PFFT. I responded on the short track issue before I watched the video, and yeah, the track is CLEARLY short. As the poster above said, neither the stride length or cadence are consistent with the alleged pace. That speed was probably more like 4:30-4:40/mi.
well, to the guy who said he was there:
Give us some examples of workouts leading up to the race
Tempo runs, intervals, etc.
Were the workouts run on this track, or elsewhere.
If workouts were done on this track, you would think you were in 4:00 shape since the track is short, as you'd be hitting very fast intervals.
Give us information and let us try to determine if it was real or not.
What were these guys' previous PR's.
Thanks
I am from Buffalo, NY. There hasn't been a guy from this area under 4:00 anytime in recent history. In fact, I believe the only buffalo resident to ever go sub 4 was Dick Buerkle, who was actually a Rochester, NY native but lived and trained in Buffalo for a while. Off the top of my head, there have been maybe 3 guys from the area to dip under 4:10 in the last decade. While its hard to tell, neither of these guys look like any of those 3 4:05-10ish guys. I'm guessing this is either A) a total hoax or B) 2 guys who just hopped on a dirt track last summer, ran 30 second PR's, and instantly became the best milers ever from the city of good neighbors.
oh dear!! well if that is a sub 4 mile, its the worst 3:43 1500m runner i ever seen. looks like a 4:10 1500m runner with fat legs. fat and slow. 2/10 for hoax quality.
look at the bend nearest the camera, its 20m long!
St. Joes, short track.
agreed, it's definitely st. joe's. can anyone verify how short it is?
well if you just use google maps to measure it carefully you get 340 meters. I guess I was 60 meters off, hmmm.
haha. it's st. joes? man, thats 4 blocks from my house and i didn't recognize it. its defintely 350 or less
thereby making it ~1360m, or ~4:42 and 4:47 mile pace.
congrats letsrun detectives.
I was actually going to say earlier that it looked like something in the 4:40 range at best, given their stride, etc.
nice work decs.
so i guess they might get a bit of a shock come indoor season when they realize they've been doing "sick" workouts on a 350m track
The Track is 0.20 ime afriad to say
busted.
in other words its a 321 metres track so he ran a 4 minutes 1284 metres. not very impressive...
I pretty much suck, and I've run a 3:30 in 1200. maybe I should make my own video of how great I am??
too bad "i was there" blew it by giving the clue that it was in buffalo. if not for that, there'd probably still be a good debate going on.
