The problem with your remark is its emptiness. I have heard the exact same remark (save the alleged user and the particular drug) applied to dozens of athletes. We have all heard it.
Get it straight: It is not "common knowledge" that MJ was on EPO, ok? Let's dispense with such a patently obvious falsehood right now. These guys dont go around waving their drug kits to everyone and a guy like MJ with plenty of enemies would have been exposed for this years ago.
I am not saying MJ did not do drugs. I am saying that your acquaintance is completely full of shit.

OK fair enough. Although I think I represented the remark properly as nothing more than heresy
Yes you did. I am simply pointing out your hearsay (I don't think you meant "heresy" unless we're getting all religious now) for the empty waste of breath it is.
Am I slamming you? Yes I guess I am. Sorry but remarks like that are 100% pure crap and you should know better. Mostly I am slamming the practice. Enough people repeat the pure crap and it takes on a life of its own. Then somewhere down the line something thinks its true just because a number of people repeated it.
Everyone has a filter for bullshit. Next time your acquaintance talks to you, I hope you will turn yours on.
Why - Are you calling Kenyans stupid? Or are you saying that the case is unique to Trevor Graham?
I would suspect the only unique part of this case is the person was willing to take the risk by sending the used needle to WADA whixh ultimately led to Marion Jones being caught. I think that scenario would be far more unlikley to happen in Kenya or Eithiopia.
Trevor Graham is not coaching any Kenyans but Gabriel Rosa is and Jos Hermans manages a few. They may be innocent until proven guilty but are far away from not being suspected by their peers.
there is nothing wrong with the article, except the end, where he asserts that only a small proportion of top track athletes dope. roughly 50% or more of the american women in the 100m and 200m olympic trials finals (plus kelli white in the semis) in 2000 (both won by jones, with chryste gaines, white, torri edwards, inger miller, and other proven users) have been nailed for doping. Should we really believe that was anomalous? Johnson argues correctly that the tests cannot exonerate anyone, because we have very good evidence of dopers passing the tests. That's why he knows he is suspected (but not accused, with evidence, by any authorities). I would love to think that he was always clean, even though he was beating proven drug users such as Calvin and Alvin Harrison and Butch Reynolds (another guy I rooted for when he set the world record).
I'm just glad that Michael Johnson DID SPEAK UP on the subject. Yes I know that there are cover ups in the sport however there has never been ANY discrepancy with MJ's performances. He was as consistent as any athlete could be for a long period of time. His ATL time was freakish, but conditions, track, and at his peak were all contributors. In the event that MJ gets hit with using drugs in his past then I will call it quits from everything associated with Track ad Field. I would advise this to all.
Oh Please.................
Michael J was clean, by virtue that he never tested positive, and never said otherwise.
Marion J is as clean as he was, but opened her big trap and let the cat out of the bag.
I wish people would quit interviewing Michael Johnson because he is an opinionated know-it-all that won't shut his pie hole.
If I were him, I'd quit talking about others, get down on my hands and knees and thank the gods above that I came out "clean" so many times.
There are so many of you living in fantasy world. unreal.
you people who still believe MJ, Geb, ElG, Lance, etc...were/are clean are complete and utter idiots.

LB please supply the source for your comments. Is this just pure conjecture on your part of do you actually have evidence that Michael Johnson cheated?
Perhaps you and Marijuologist have the same source?
Marijuologist you have successfully proven my theory that dooby smoking can take a Mensa member to sub-Mensa levels by virtue of "brain-cellicide".

read the first two statements of my post.
Marion is AS CLEAN as Michael by virtue that they neither EVER failed a drug test. Marion just opened her mouth. In the eyes of the piss test and blood test, SHE IS CLEAN.
If you really think there are world record/national records on the books that are "clean", well then, Santa Clause and his eight reindeer will be visiting you this year for sure!
Trevor Graham = Jos Hermans

So, if a person who committed an unsolved murder walks into a police station and confesses, every innocent person is just as guilty except that they just didn't open their mouths and confess?
Your logic makes me cringe at the thought that "legally blond" means you have, or have ambitions towards having, a career in law.

Yeah, his logic in that piece was pretty flawed. He started off by saying that the tests are unreliable and don't catch everyone, but then tries to exonerate himself by saying that he never tested positive.
Um, no he doesn't. He says that the fact that he never tested positive *should* support his claim that he's clean and he then goes on to say that, sadly, it doesn't. That is a valid point. Ultimately, he says that there is no way that he or any other athlete can prove that they are clean. I believe that Paula Radcliffe is clean but, ultimately, that's all it is. A belief.
I do find it interesting that he thinks that the majority of athletes are clean.
And anyone who thinks his 19.32 proves that he was doping is an idiot. Drugs won't help you run 19.32. Nothing will help you run 19.32.
I read his book and he comes of as a smart hard working person. That's all I know.
I agree with Legally Blond, it is highly improbable that MJ was clean. History has proven that it doesn't matter if he has passed 10 drug tests or 10000, a person can still be on drugs and pass tests.
I believe that he is guilty for the same reason that I believe Lance is guilty. It seems improbable that a person can totally domininate without drugs against competition that has later proven to be on drugs.

I think all people who use performance enhancing substances also work hard. Not too many world class athletes don't work hard in addition to a little help. I know FloJo worked hard. Doesn't make them clean.

The fact that Marion Jones never failed a drugs test during the age where it was perceived from the general public point of view that drugs cheats would be eventually be caught has been completely destroyed. Any credibilty they once enjoyed has evaporated despite testing improving significantly.
There is a specific reason that she did not test positive in that interval and it is because of the use of a drug that was designed to breakdown under the testing process. Are there other, similar drugs out there? Maybe, but probably not as effective and hence providing less advantage. Do drugs help (at the level that they can be taken), probably, but the assistance varies and tends to be greater for women than for men.
Note that there was an announcement a couple of days ago about a urine test that could be conducted with a drop of urine and be performed in a manner of seconds/minute, not hours/days. Maybe this will lead to the same sort of 'jump' that occurred after 1988. Really, after 1988 there were two 'jumps' although the second was more of a glide. The main event was out-of-competition testing, the glide was from a broadening and growing independence of the testing process.
