I agree with everything you wrote except for that. It's a "better" warmup....but going out too fast has nothing to do with the warmup.

Warmups are quite highly overrated.
The optimal warm-up is:
10-20 minutes easy running
4-6 x 100m strides approximating race pace
No need for drills, no need for stretching, no need for intervals, and no need to be drenched in sweat.
