If you ever look over the all-time performances lists, you'll notice that Kennedy ran several races between 13:00-13:05 only breaking 13 a couple of times. Now not everyone is going to follow the same pattern. However, it did show he was consistently strong and consistently pushing the border of sub 13.
Teg has only broken 13:05 one time, and it was by .1 of a second. That was a year ago now.
Solinksy just PRed big time and it's unlikely that he'd drop another 14 seconds just as easily.
Webb has been focusing on the shorter events, but he could possibly break 13:05, not sure about 13 flat.
I'm not trying to say that these runners can't get the American Record, but they'd need a very special race for it to happen.
Teg hasn't taken too many shots at it over the summer, running some 15's and 3k's and the 5k at slightly elevated Lausanne, but the PRs haven't come as easily as they had been.
Webb seems like he would have the best chance since has raced it seriously so few times. I'd like to see him race one, but obviously Worlds is the biggest priority right now. Maybe after Worlds he can run a 5k before the season completely ends?
