your a moron man, i can barely break 24 for a 200 but can hit 11.9 in trainers in workouts. i bet webb can go something like 10.7-11.0 and 22.0-23.0

Can't break 12??? Geez I hope that was a joke to get a rise out of people. You know how retarded the form is of many kids in high school that run in the 11.00-11.99 range? I'm pretty sure Webb's form and power are as good or better than those mediocre high school sprinters that run in this range. My guess would be 11.05 or so for Webb.

I am not completely sure, but i think Webb can run around 11 flat. Realize that he was could run a 48sec quarter in high school, and he has gotten a lot stronger and faster since then.

I mean shit, I can run a 12 flat 100m, and I can only run a 4:06 1500m!

you don't have to be able to accelerate like a 100m sprinter to run under 12. I think webb could run 11 low

This booard is normally knowledgable about distance running, but wow most of you are WAY off in terms of sprinting knowledge. One person mentioned 10.6? Are you serious, with his strength he could use that speed to run a 138 or 139 in the 800. It was rumored that Cruz ran 10.6 or 10.7 and he was much more gifted in the sprint than Webb. He ran 141, so with webb and his strength you do the math. Another guy mentioned 11.9? I do repeats in track season faster than that. Nick Willis reportedly was doing them at 11.2 with a moving start. He is definitely faster than high 11's. One last point I would like to make is that just because Webb has develpoed a more decisive kick this year it does not mean he improved his top end speed by massive amounts, he is just fitter than everyone else. Remember, Symmmonds is one of the slower sprinters in a world class half mile field, yet his superior endurance enables him to capitalize in the final straightaway. Is it because he suddenly can run 44? No, he still a 47 guy but he is fitter and stronger. webb split 47 in hs so i guess thats about 48 flatish for the open 4 by now. (his mile pr has dropped 5 seconds ansd 800 2 seconds, so i doubt his 400 has improved by more than a half second. What alot of people forget on here is that he is more of a strength miler than a speed guy, so as he moves down in events his ability fades. That being said I know plenty of pure 400 guys running 48 who can't run in the 21's for 200. For a guy like Webb i'd say 11.2/22 flat.

I agree with the 11 - 11.2 time. When I was a 400/800 guy in college, I ran 11.5 for 100m and 51 high 400m. Webb has more strength, but with a 48" 400m and 1'45" 800, he got to be noticeable faster than me in the 100.

Most would call a 12 sec 100 with 700m to go crazy, but Prefontaine would grin from ear to ear at the blood on the track!

Webb is a miler who runs a pretty fair 10k. You don't do that and still have good 100m speed. You can't compare this runner to that runner. Just because YOU are slower in the mile but can run fast 100s does NOT mean Webb will run fast 100s because he is faster than you in the mile. Pick up a book. He runs no faster than 11.5 out of the blocks.

PS-what I was trying to get at with my 400m analogy is that you don't run your fastest 100 at the start. Just because someone runs the 400m in 48 (4x12) doesn't mean he'll run sub 11 in the 100. 12 is the avg. 3 of the 100 splits have flying starts.

I was a quarter/halfmiler in HS who also did some sprinting. Sprinting out of the blocks is nothing like sprinting at the end of a mile or 800 sorry.

11.2? NO

I and alot of my friendscould not run from the blocks to save my life. My 5 or 6 best 220 times were splits from 440. It is not uncommon, i ran alot more relaxed in the quarter than when i was trying to go all out in the 220 or 100. LATER, with the right coaching, i learned how to relax & run the shorter stuff.

There are quite a few guys in the 48 second range that could not break 22.8...Namely my whole mile relay of half milers. If you can't break 22.8 you probably will do mid 11.

Sprinting is different from the blocks. i ran 4.5 in the 40(football)

48.2 in the quarter(standing start) in HS and my best 220 was 22.9 and 100 yard time was 11, thats YARDS.

one of the running books or articles had estimated Ritz to be a 11.1 100 guy. I think it had Geb faster around 10.8

Webb's stong part of a 400m would be his second part of the race, not the beggining. From a standing start (or in blocks) he will not break 11 FAT. Running start I am sure he could get under 11

Couldn't El G do 10.5-6? And didn't he also show a lot of 'strength' to run a decent 5000? Webb can't be too far behind. 11.0-11.2 or faster.

there is no consistency among the posts in terms of whether we're talking starting from the blocks FAT, stand-still start hand-timed, or running start hand-timed. for a 100m race, the differences between those three things are huge.

for a true FAT 100m race, i think 11.20-11.50 is a good rance, albeit a fairly large one. with practice he could probably dip below 11.00, but why would he practice it? a lot of this would depend on his reflexes at the start, something that i don't think any of us have any knowledge of.

running start hand-timed? then you're talking 10.0 or so. for context, i believe anchor legs of 4x1s have been timed in the 8.5 range. and MJ ran the last 100 of his world record 200 in around 9.2.

Geb's coach has said he's run 11.7s in training (I think from standing but I can't remember). There's a difference between what he has run and what he would be capable of in an all out effort. (Which it's unlikely Dr Wolde would have let him)

As guys say standing vs rolling start will make a major difference - that's why 200m times can be misleading. And sprinter will accelerate far faster than a distance runner so saying this sprinter can run X for 100m and Y for 200m is irrelevant.

Coe did run some very fast 100ms. He was also a AAAs champs silver medallist at 400m.
