Start gradual build up to peak high mileage ove next few months, take it steady to ebuild body and mind afte blown it. Do a few early fall 10k/half marathons to keep up racing morale and then go all out for a marathon in November/december time when weather conditions will be perfect for this gruelling event.
Dont put yourself down with 2.40 in those conditions thats average/good.
Stay focused and train smart , keep motivation high and you will succeed next time- be patient .

If you ran 1:54 for the 20 on Saturday then on a cool day you would have been at what, 1:52 and finished in 2:27 or so? If marathons take as much out of you as my 10 did me then you need at least a month of nothing but nothing or easy short to med runs... Then you can build up for 3 months and POSSIBLY qualify for the Oly Trials. I'm a firm beliver that it is 8 to 9 mile runs at marathon pace that make the buildup what it can be. Don't throw that opportunity away. You may not get another chance in another 4 or 8 years.
