what about reading wrote:
I am near sighted, so I don't need any glasses for reading, (yes, I'm over 40), but I need them for anything 5 feet away or more. My ? is: if I get lasik for my near sightedness, will I then have to use reading glasses and most older people do, who have good vision? I don't want to trade one set of glasses for another. What's the point in that. I do need to read very small print on maps for my job, too, and spend alot of time on the computer.
I had lasik done at age 35. I will be 42 in August. I have recently noticed that my vision blurs a little on print that is closer on a little less than a foot. I knew this going in and my Drs did tell me about it.
I will need reading glasses. I do spend time on a computer. But I can tell you that I do not miss my contacts one bit. I first got them in 1993 and tolerated them well until 2001. I do a lot of wood working and the dust was hell on me. Sweat was no fun either. I also take several week long or more fishing trips in pretty remote wilderness with no hot or running water. Trying to wash you hands and deal with contact was a nightmare.
I forgot I even wore them and don't miss contacts a bit. I don't mind that I will need reading glasses in a few more years either. I just had my vision checked and my left eye is 20/15 and right is 20/20 - just like they were right after lasik.
As to doing something before your Dr. says it is OK - THESE ARE YOUR FRIGGIN' EYES!!! IN ORDER FOR THE PROCEDURE TO TAKE PROPERLY THE INCISIONS NEED TO HEAL PROPERLY AND CHANCE FOR INFECTION NEEDS TO BE MINIMIZED!!!! TAKE A WEEK OFF AND STOP BEING SUCH AN IDIOT!!
The only thing that the doctor states about physical activity, is that he wants your eyes to stay as clean as possible. If you take the proper precautions before and after you run, then running is fine. No you should not wipe yours eyes or allow any foreign debri in them. Yes you should use the wetting drops often. Also, something tells me you arn't going out for a 1.5 -2 hour long run either. In the days following my lasik, I went 3miles the day after, 6 the next day, 10 the next and 20 the next. I fell right back into my standard routine, but i was aware of my surroundings and where i was running.
