just a thought that this might have something to do with McMillan's recently announced training group...i would think Eberly, and especially Moen would only jump something that seemed to be working well for them if they thought there was something better...

I would really like to see some young, top notch talent run for the Hansons - like McDougal, Nelson from Wisconsin, etc.
Do you think Hansons will ever get some blue chippers or only the blue collar runners that they develop?
Maybe they just didn't like training in Michigan? Maybe their personal lives took them away from the area. Lots of reasons for leaving a team (who said they got cut?)

the explanation you are looking for is called: contract expiration.
hasnt at least one guy left and came back years later? maybe right now one or more of these guys needs to be out of state for a while, or wants to pursue some other option, doesnt mean they are gone for good or abandoning the program, they just arent signing contracts this summer, big deal.

Moen, Gaudette, and Eberly are all a few levels above Rizzo who is still there. C'mon...do you think Hanson's would cut those three and leave Rizzo. I imagine they have an agenda of some sort. Those three will still turn some heads down the road.

Well, DUH!! Um, if people couldn't spot a negativity-laced post before I pointed it out, it only makes sense (or cense, if you prefer) that they wouldn't be able to spot any unless I continued to rub their noses in them. The negativity started before my first post here and it continued on after it, too. Not that nobody could've predicted that on this site.

I have a hard time understanding getting rid of Moen. This guy has improved from 30:00 to 28:40 in one year. He has been on a couple of the Chiba Teams and seemed to be still improving.
Jeff Gaudette has to be mister unlucky. The guy has run 28:47 and 2:22:04 just missing the Olympic Trials on 2 occasions. Now the Hansons send him packing. Although I understand that it is probably a business decision. I don't agree with it.
Josh Eberly seems to be getting worse every year even though his teammates are improving. I don't know if it is his fault or the Hansons, but probably a good divorce.
Josh Moen is the only one that shocks me.

All great leaders have someone within their ranks that feels this way. If everyone is happy, then they are too soft. I don't know any of the details in these athletes dismissal, but I would expect you to lose about 20% a year in a program that brings in guys that aren't quite good enough to be big time.
They all left because they wanted out. It is as simple as that. None of those guys were cut. They didn't like it there for several reasons.
Moen was offered an amazing deal(for the Hanson setup) to stay but he was that unhappy there.

It is natural to wonder why a good athlete leaves his "team". If a major league baseball player left his team it would be discussed all over ESPN. It shows that there are people interested in the sport.
Wow, very well said. It is funny how these threads get attacked as being negative. You hit the nail on the head. If no one cared, that would be a problem. Hopefully, the Hansons can reload with some blue chip talent.

You are right Nobody Really Knows. They all left because they wanted out of the program. People come and go and these guys were ready to move on with their lives and possibly get coached by people who could give them a better chance.

And does anyone know if they are currently accepting applications and/or their strategy for recruiting runners? Are they looking for Brian Sell types or blue chippers?
