He won two straight NCAA titles, someone that's rare of late and frankly may not happen again like...ever. He wasn't going to win three. He might be getting tired of recruiting.
He did the right thing.

Don't exaggerate, young man. In MY neighborhood, it's not really that rare or particularly impressive!
Listen up, fossil, you sat by while YOUR neighborhood was both razed and gentrified, you couldn't even own a chicken coop there if you hadn't been around to get your cheap house when you did, when the market was about a million times softer than it is today. You need to learn what "of late" means, because pretty soon you'll be "late" and the only neighbors you'll have will be worms and bones. Who was the last coach to win even two in a row? Tark? When was the last time it happened prior to those UNLV wins?
its ok i guess... i mean just football championships from now on will satisfy.

Actually, my Duke teams won it in both the 1991 and '92 school years. Tark's crew never won back-to-back, but the title that they did win barely stopped me from taking THREE-in-a-row!
That's OK though, Mark. Since you're the coach at a tiny little outfit like Gonzaga, I wouldn't expect you to actually know too much about the sport. As a result, it was fairly easy to pick Jim Boeheim over people like YOU for my Olympic coaching staff!
Hopefully you will get a job at a real school some day. Until then, I will send you a postcard from Beijing next summer while my guys are bringing home the gold!
Buying a gold isn't a huge stretch from buying NCAA titles. I'll have my antiseptic sprays for bird flu, TB, and tears-of-defeat ready for your postcard.
Anyway, who was the last to even repeat before 1991 and when was it?
"I'm a UofL grad, but a born and bread IU Hoosiers fan aka "The Next NCAA Basketball Champions". Live in Louisville so I've heard just about enough of all this "Fire Tubby" UK this and that crap.
UK fans are idiots. Gillespie won't do any better or worse than Tubby did and Tubby will have the Gophers in the dance in 4 years or less.
Alan"
Dude, for one thing, UK fans are not all idiots. Thanks. However, In response to the Fire Tubby "crap," Tubby was a very good bench coach. I honestly don't think many true UK fans would argue that point. His downfall was recruiting and managing egos, plain and simple. His blue chip recruits for the most part all caused team turmoil and the players who bought into his system just weren't good enough to compete with the nation's best.
Gillespie may not due better than Tubby did - 10 straight NCAA tourneys and 1 National Championship, but he is already showing the fans that he is a hard, hard worker on the recruiting trail. Next to wins, that's what people want to see.
Don't try to generalize all UK fans with a rip like that. I'm sure there are just as many idiot UofL fans, too. True blue fans want to see results on the National stage, not just beating teams you are supposed to beat. Tubby didn't have too many signature wins in his last 5 years of coaching the Cats and that doesn't fly with a top notch program in any sport.
Excuse me, it's "DO better than Tubby." I'm sure I'll get labeled an ignorant hick by someone for that.
Looks like someone is having cold feet...
what a f***ing tool he is.
