uh.. the typical age of high school graduation in the united states is 18. you enter high school at 14 as a freshman. you enter kindergarten at age 5.
it used to be that jr. high was grades 7-9 and high school was grades 10-12. I can't imagnine being in 9th grade (like they are today) and running the workouts I ran in 10th-12th grade. Too much, too soon for 9th grade. Puttiing 9th grade kids in with 12th graders is too much of a spread. I don't know why they made the switch. Kids grow up too fast these days anyway. In high school you were 16, 17 and 18. (or 95% were, some with late birthdays were graduating at 17. A few 19 year olds who might have been held back a grade sometime; but no 20 year olds; don't be ridiculous)

Freshman in high school - Drunk after 2 beers.
Senior in college - finally wasted after 36 hours of non-stop partying and about 2 cases of beer.
Now that's progression!
Freshman: 20:06 first XC race, 18:13 to end the year; 5:35 first XC practice, 4:55 first track meet, 4:37 at the end of the year; 10:29 one race
Sophomore: 17:35; 4:27, 9:55
Junior: 16:16; 4:34, 9:36
Senior: 15:53; 4:27, 9:32
College: Didn't run track in college. Long story. Ran cross rather poorly though. Had some back/disc issues. Ran 27:30 first XC meet. Then barely running 30 for 8k with the back problem. Got back down to 26:26 after 5 years.
Post college: 1:09:40 half marathon and 2:32:45 are the only results worth noting. I did finally run ONE track 5k in 15:47 the hard way (4:50, 9:50...).

I Only had 2 good seasons of XC and 1 of track because of the Marine Corps reserves. Something about getting deployed overseas 3 times in 3 years is condusive to injuries and not training.

Huh??? What state is that? In Illinois and Wisconsin, kids are 13 or 14 when they enter high school and 17 or 18 when they graduate. I've never heard of kid being 19 when he or she graduated from high school in Illinois or Wisconsin.
800 2:09 1:59

3200 10:42 9:46
College So far I'm a soph
1500 4:09 ran once
3000 8:53
5000 15:25
8k cross 25:43
sure, you could be 19 when graduating high school, if you were held back one grade during your school years, as most people graduate during their 18th year. (17 for late birthdays). But it would not be the norm. (exception for Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi where the avg age at graduation is 25)
High School
400m 53.
800m-2:10-2:03-2:00-1:57.6
1600-5:09-(didn't run it as a soph)-4:42-4:50
3200- Never ran it
5k- XC senior year only- 17:33
College
400m- relay split many 51.
800m- 1:54.8
Mile- 4:14.5
3000- Only ran it twice, 8:41
5k- Summer road races only- 15:30
I improved 30seconds in the mile and roughly 2 minutes in the 5k. In high school, the 400 and 800 were my only focus. In college, on the other hand, I never focused on the 400m and most of my 800s were run as doubles after a mile or 1500m, just to get in some speed work.
