It sounds like you have something against Aish. I don't like to bash people, but I have to call you out because you sound like a dumb ass for saying Aish is only going to run 2:19. Besides Aish ran in the olympics 10000. I would say any one who ran in the olympics is an elite, wouldn't you? But het maybe thats just me.

I LOVE it!!!! Knower has finally been exposed as the BS artist he really is....the truth is, he knows very little! C'mon Knower, give us a long list of reasons (like you did on the political thread and others) on why we should not debate you on this on how Aish is really not an ?elite? runner and who will run ?2:19 at best.? And guess what, if he has a bad day and runs that slow (which would be the only explanation of him running a 2:19 based on previous credentials), it does not mean that you ?knew,? but that you got lucky. Bad predictions come sometimes too! But I doubt this will be one of those cases.
I predict 2:14:30 for Aish and 13th place.
So how is MackAttack going to do? Any thoughts...?

errr... sorry, but running in the Olympics, and running 29min30 - finishing dead last out of all finishing starters - and being lapped by the entire field, kind of takes away from "Eliteness" - you dumb ass

Aish may have caught the flu that was going around the last summer Olympics. That was a very un-Aishlike perf.
As for Keflezighi...in a world in which it is well-known that Don King has accumulated enormous wealth, if Keflezighi were running the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon, why would Nike and the Pink Man NOT be promoting the heck out of his debut -- it's only 23 days to race day, the Pink Man has already released the superstar roster, so why would they keep him OFF the list?
Especially a guy with a crossover-appeal story -- he can see better than Runyan, but she didn't flee a war before becoming American. (You T&F aficionados know it well and obviously hate "up close and personal" stuff but that type of coverage DOES sell well with people who don't already know how to pronounce "Mebrahtom," and that group includes a lot of lifelong runners). It takes a while to get that story in the media flow.
The NYC Marathon has not released its "meat list" of top talent, only a few runners. So he could still be in the netherworld without too much PR pain.

Man, in the Chicago Marathon, someone who ran a 1:03 half should not be considered elite - I know what his times are. That's an ok time, and I'm not saying he can't become a great runner someday, but TJ Lentz also has a 1:03 half marathon to his credit, and John Sence has run even faster and they haven't run a 2:11 marathon.
You stick to your 2:11-2:12 prediction and I'll stick to my 2:19 prediction, and lets see who is closest. If you are I'll tip my hat to you and Aish. I think too many people think the marathon is a piece of cake for someone who has never run one even though he has fast times in shorter distances. It will be a challenge for him, and again, I think he'll be lucky if he beats all the women. He should be described as a pretty good runner in this field, but until he proves he can run a good marathon, he shouldn't be considered elite. By the way, before someone makes a comparison to Geb, Aish isn't Geb. Geb was elite before he ran his London Marathon, but only because he is Geb.

I say Aish runs with that front pack untill 20. The last 6 will decide if he runs 2:12 or your 2:19. There should be no real shame in getting beat by paula, espicly if She runs super fast.

Aish ran with Joe LeMay for the first 18mi of the 1999 Cal Int'l Mthn. Dropped out there, unclear whether that was planned or not. He was in college then. My point? He knows a little bit more abt the gig than your usual virgin.

Man, I didn't realize I had the power to get under your skin like that. Read the post I wrote that Thomas responded to. Thomas gets it, and his attitude really ought to be yours also.
Here's where I think I get myself into hot water with some of you people - I do not slam other runners, say they suck or anything like that like some other posters here do, and so when I call something like it is or like it should be, you all assume that I am slamming that person. Let's look at the facts:
1) I said Michael Aish shouldn't be considered elite in the Chicago Marathon. No slam there. He's an excellent runner and has the possibility of being an elite marathon runner, but until he does it, I can't consider him elite. I'd call him elite at Grandma's Marathon, but not Chicago this time.
2) Someone predicted 2:11-2:12. I think that's a bit fast for a first time marathoner, regardless of whether he's run a 1:03 half or not. Again, to use my TJ Lentz example, he also has a PR of 1:03, but his marathon best is 2:17, and that was after several tries at the marathon distance. Lentz has been mostly a low 2:20s guy. I think that Aish is more talented a runner than TJ, but again, beyond the half marathon distance, we don't know.
3) How has anything I've posted show that I don't know anything about running? So what that Aish has run 13:22. How many educated runners do you know that look at a 5,000 time and predict marathon times? The only ones who do that are ones who don't know what they are talking about. I've already given you my opinion on the 1:03 half.
4) Kurdt - pretty convenient of you to say that if Aish runs 2:19 that he just had a bad day and that I'm still not right. What kind of crap is that? This is what I'm talking about. This is what went into my prediction of 2:19 for him. The possibility of a "bad day" for a first-time marathoner is great, so if he runs 2:19, then he runs 2:19 - no conditions or what-ifs. Kurdt, seems to me like you're a "sun is in my eyes" kind of guy. You either put up on race day or you don't. If he runs faster than that, then like I said before, I'll tip my hat to him. My original post on that came as a response to someone who said he would run 2:11-2:12, so if Aish runs 2:17, then he would still be closer to my prediction than the 2:11-2:12.
5) Someone seemed to think it was a slam against Aish to say that he'd be lucky to beat all the women. I wasn't slamming him. I was pointing out what we already know which is that there are two stellar women in this field. I agree that there is no shame in getting beaten by Paula.
Anyway, lets put this on the proper playing field. Kurdt, if Aish runs 2:19 or slower or drops out, then I get to declare that I am right - that's only fair, because that is my prediction. If he runs 2:12 or faster, then the poster who predicted 2:11-2:12 is right. If he runs about 2:15:30, then he falls about right in between where 2:11-2:12 guy and I said, so you all will have to make up your mind about what that means. I go so far as to say that that still makes me wrong, because I did say 2:19. Kurdt, what if Aish runs 2:18, can I say that I am right and that Aish just had a "good day"?
Went back and read some of your responses again, and one thing is clear to me - you all CAN'T READ or at the very least, READING COMPREHENSION is not your strength.
I never said Aish wasn't an elite runner.
I said he shouldn't be considered elite in the CHICAGO MARATHON.
I know how many DII titles he has. I know that he has posted some excellent times in shorter distances. I agree that Michael Aish is an elite runner. What I said was that I was surprised that he was considered elite in the Chicago Marathon, and for that I get slammed? Thomas, you are exempt from this e-mail, because you rightfully decided after reading my first explanation that your respect for me had returned. Anyway, I hope he runs 2:07.
Ah. 18 miles is not 26.2 miles - in fact that's only just about 2/3 of the way. Also, no expectations were on him there. Here in the Chicago Marathon he is trying to run a fast time. Trying to run a fast time in your first marathon doesn't always come true, and as much as I think Aish is a very good runner, he is not Geb or even Alberto Salazar.
Lack of knowledge about Aish is not an issue with me. I know what he has done and what he hasn't done. I'm simply making an informed prediction. I will either be right or wrong.
