Great thread.
I've been a middle distance guy for eons, but last year, due to lack of endurance training, I tried some 400s. I'm slooooooow, but it was fun, and challenging, and different.
I really want a sub 60 this year....age 45. Some great tips in this thread. Thanks.
it was raining on sunday (i'm in zurich) but warm, it went ok... i clicked my watch just shy of 62 and a halfi feel like i could do a lot betteri felt so slow the first 100m.... i didn't feel like I got moving at all until the straigh section on the back stretch i glanced at my watch at the half way point and i was there in 31the first 100m just felt frustrating, it felt like my mind and lungs were telling my legs to move faster but they wouldn't....i'd like to do few more over the next couple of weeks... i think i can break 60 eventuallykind of related question... i'm trying lydiards hills for the first timei'm doing 90 sec. bounding, 3 minute jog at top, 30 sec. down the hillthen when i get to the bottom of the hill- do I go right into a 1 min windsprint then right into bounding againi've been doing 90 bounding, 3 jog, 30 down, 1 minute jog, 1 minute windspring, 2 minute jog and then start overis this about right??

Good stuff. If you even split it, you probably can go a good bit faster with minimal sprint work. Keep it up!
Sorry, I have no advice for your question.
stop looking at your watch every 100m and you'll go quicker!
It sounds like you did very little stride/speed development during your base phase? If that's the case, it's O.K. for a marathon, but a mistake if you are training for 10k or below.
Haha. Meant to comment sooner that your handle is great

to be honest i have no idea what i can even run a 100m in... does anyone actually do a full out timed 100m who is a distance runner...
i did them in high school in soccer and that was about it, many years ago... some day maybe after doing a few all out 400s a few weeks in a row i'd like to do an all out 100m when i'm sure i won't tear something

Yes I run flat out 100's all year round, and hill sprints too. Every distance runner should, it is the easiest session for a distance runner, but absolutely essential.
