I saw Hayes' 100 meters and anchor leg. To this day, I have not witnessed anything like it. I did not see Owens run, but since Tokyo, Hayes has not been surpassed.
If you would like to see a performance that dwarf's Hayes's anchor leg run, call up the PIAA and get a copy of Lauryn Williams's 2001 PA State 4x100m anchor.
I am not exaggerating at all when i say that she got the baton in dead last, literally 15-20 meters behind the leader. She proceded to run down the SECOND FASTEST GIRL IN THE STATE who had a 15-20m lead, and nipped her at the line. The crowd was going so crazy, they had to delay the next event.
Williams went on to win Junior Nationals last year and place 5th i believe in the NCAA 100m final as a freshman at Miami last year.
