thanks john, but would either you or denes PLEASE post some samples of workouts especially in a weekly format at different stages of the year so those of us who want to learn more about coaching can experience the exchange of ideas?

denes and john,
allowing you are busy, it is disappointing you haven't shared anything about shalane's training. PLEASE post some specifics.
What I wanna know is how you get a six pack like that!!! That's unreal!!!

As always there are NO secrets to distance running success. It might be hard for you to understand how important consistency is. She's doing the same stuff as anyone else having success in this sport.
i get it, but i like to see exactly what people are doing.
why not share?
In her interview she states that Cook is more of her guide and that she and her husband plan to return to NC are are looking for a more hands on coach. I'm sure they have someone in mind and that person is somehow associated with Cook or Nike.
WHY DID SHALANE LOOKS SO OLD???She was a beauty a few years ago...and now...she's not anymore...
thanks. i want to see some workouts. what is so sacred about posting a couple of weeks of work so people can get some ideas?
dang!
i think she ran 1x3000 in 8:33 the other day. probably some sort of warmup and cooldown. strides after the warmup? maybe some stretching involved?
thanks, that is more then her coaches are willing give.
balazs (hungerian) and cook (german) are acting like american coaches---don't share a thing!
it annoys me so much that something so simple can't be shared it causes me to spell choice wrong.
I respect many coachs' decisions to keep their athletes' training logs confidential.
However, I don't exactly understand why they have to be. Maybe sharing them over a message board is not the best idea, but still, there shouldn't be anything secret about them.
...Unless maybe there is some dangerous training method that no one should know about...but I doubt there is, and I don't see why training methods are so hidden from the fans/coaches/fellow runners.
Maybe if pro runners' training logs were available to the public, then less-experienced runners or coaches would be able to make positive changes in their own training to maximize potential. Pro runners are great role models for future generations and it would be really nice to get atleast an idea of the hard work and dedication it takes for them to be such amazing athletes.
Anorexia will do that. She does not look healthy.

By most standards, neither do Sara Hall and Deena Kastor (when in competitive trim), and yes, even Regina Jacobs when she set the record that Shalane broke.
Distance running is not a sport involving aesthetic judgment of the competitors. There is a fine line between "anorexia" in common parlance and the condition of world class athletes who are pushing the envelope of strength-to-weight ratio. We'll see how Shalane holds up in her new "chassis". I suspect quite well.
"Health is a stage that an athlete passes through on the way to top competitive fitness"- Frank Shorter
"Most people would be shocked at just how thin a runner is when they are at their peak" -Marty Liquori
Perhaps they are anorexic as well. It is a shame they have to go to this end to reach their goals.
...that you are shamelessly asking professional coaches to give you something for nothing. These people make their living from doing what they do...would you expect a architect to show you their designs for free?
you do realize... wrote:

i realize that i am asking for help. my bitch is that too many coaches don't realize passing the workout progression can help othercoaches and athletes become better. my belief is there is less to the actual workouts and more "magic" in the coach-athlete relationship. i simply want to see some specific workouts. the idea that balazs and cook should be compenstated for my request is crap. they wouldn't be hooked up with flanagan if NIKE didn't pay them well.
the less people are willing to share the more suspicious i am of the result.
Hey weirdo,
Ever think they don't read the boards?
Maybe they have more important things to do than answer your questions.
Besides, why the f**k would he want to give this group of idiots anything. Look how you people treat his athlete.
Who do you think you are anyway? Have some f**king respect.

The idea that one of these coaches needs to respond to your stupid post is crap. The guy above me is right, you are a moron, and quit being so rude.
If I were Shalane, I wouldn't even give LetsRun an interview. You are all bastards, and now you want favors from her coaches?
BTW, if you think that response earlier in the thread was really her coach, you are an idiot.
Neither Sara or Deena look like Shalane. They are both very slim, maybe on the edge, but Shalane is over the edge and looks very unhealthy. There is a difference between being skinny and anorexic looking. Shalane is anorexic looking, not just too skinny.
