Who is her coach/mentor?
denes balazs and john cook
Who is Denes Balazs?
ran at azusa pacific (naia) about a decade ago. can't help you with more than that.
Thanks!
balazs is in the azusa pacific top 10 in the 800, 1500, mile and 5000.
respective times are 1:51.90, 3:48.83, 4:09.02 and 14:42.00.
his coach? irv ray.
Where is her home training base?
it seems to be portland, oregon with stints at mammoth.
Another example of how Irv Ray controls the running world. If you don't think so, you just don't know it.
Does anyone have a sample of a day or week of training?
Shalane's program was based on what I've done when I ran in Hungary during the late 80's and 90's. There was a lot more than APU. Igloi - Tabori - Hires - Mecser names that you could search for.
thanks for the response.
searching for the method is fine but we (I think i can speak for more than myself) are interested in the now.
please give us specific samples of your program so we might see a pattern or where emphasis is at certain times of the year.
i hope you will show us what you are doing.

r u really saying she follows somewhat of a modified Igloi program (with lots and lots of short repeats, ie lots of "intermittent" training)?? If so, that would be quite interesting, since we haven't had a really top US runner following such a program in awhile ( with most runners today using mostly steady/non-stop runs, with longer repeats mixed into the week).
Yes... please be more specific on the correlations to the coined lgloi concepts. I have gone through ALL of the threads on Letsrun concerning the subject so I'm very curious about the relation to Shalane's training.

Maybe thats the reason that we haven't had a very successful American distance runner in some time.
the question who is coach is too simple- it is the athlete and many people who deserve credit for great performances- the end product of a great time is never the whole story- for shalane it has bin a long road and a network of people who got her back to running- coach craddock at unc- alberto salazar for contacting dr. sexina- dan pfaff- for contacts- mark lindsey- dr. king-nike staff- denes balazs-vern gambetta with ideas of training-most of all shalane- and her husband steve - who have done the work- and sacrifice- the kenyan athletes and erin donohue with whom she trained- it is never just one person- almost forgot justin whitaker the art specialist in portland who gave his time freely and really got her healthy after the operation- thanks to all- and especially her parents for encouragement when we had dark days- thanks again- best- john cook

Thanks. That seems to be the same with all great athletes.
They are the "sum total" of all they have been exposed to.
Again, thanks.
Didn't Igloi tutor under Irv Ray?
