AH,If you were a great bio-chemist you would be on one of these cheaters' payrolls. You smart asses with your science degrees need to quit picking on those who preferred a less studious life while in college majoring in communications, like me. Bottom line is, Lance is more likely than not, doping.

Now there is a compelling argument. I totally convinced now. Thanks for the insight.
OK, so nobody has proof, he's done it all through hard work and dedication, improving rapidly after defeating cancer and training for only one event, blah, blah blah so he's not doping, Flo-Jo was clean too.

It appears that waz the Euro-Troll is back with his drug accusations again.
Read Chris Carmichael's (Lance's coach) book on training. You'll see that his training is geared almost exclusively towards the demands of the Tour. I also found it to be similar to what the Africans have been preaching and winning with: long miles, lots of climbing (hills), incredible amounts of race paced quality work rather than repeated sprinting or explosiveness. In short, Lance practices race pace everyday and his body has adapted to meet the demands of multi-stage racing. As for riding faster than St. Eddy M., consider that today's carbon fiber wonder frames, titanium gruppos, and clipless pedals make Lance's custom Trek about 5-6 pounds lighter and much more efficient than anything available in the 60's and 70's. Factor in nutrition, advances in training theory, heart rate monitors, et al. and you will get faster overall speeds.
I agree Lance is not doping but if you really thnk Lance is riding a Trek you need some educating... Lance rides a custom hand built bike made by an independant company. Trek is one of his sponsors and kind enough to put their little Trek stickers on his bike for him
Hey waz,
I've heard about the infractions of the riders you've mentioned except for Roche. Please ,before I can pick up the book you mentioned, give me the straight dope(couldn't resist), on Stephen Roche. Thanks.
Get real people.
You can't possibly believe that Lance is the only guy that trains hard every day, the only guy that rides at race pace every day, the only guy that climbs every day.
Cycling is like running in many ways and pretty much every training technique ever tried ahs been tried by many people. Nobody, not even Carmichael and Armstrong have a secret uber training plan.
Lance is a better athlete than anyone else on tour right now...would he be able to beat the dopers and win 5 straight tours clean? Thats a lot to believe.
so why do you think Trek doesn't make his bike ?? in fact it might be easier for them to make a uniquely customed bike just for him since they obviously have all the materials, manufacturing equipment, resources, etc. he could just as easily tell them as anyone to change this or tweek that in a way that he likes.
i don't think you're naive enough to believe they're just being "kind" by putting the stickers on the bike, even if it WAS manufactured by someone else.
bike manufacturing cost - around $12k,
endorsement contract - more than i'll earn in a lifetime,
exposure for Trek during the month of July - priceless.

I didn't realize actually knowing what you're talking about was considered picking on people.

Wait, if now I repeat your argument in a sarcastic tone, write blah blah blah, and then write the name of someone who most people think was clean - will that finally prove to you that Lance is not on drugs?

Again you do not explain Mercyx's comments
'you do not ride the tour on water and orange juice'
Maybe HE didn't ride the tour on water and orange juice, but how does that qualify him to speak on behalf of any other rider?
Shhhh...Lance is riding a Huffy with Trek stickers on it.
Stater - if I follow you, Zatopek, Bannister, Viren, Geb, El G, Aouita, Coe, Benoit, Radcliffe, and any other athlete who has enjoyed a clear superiority for any length of time did it only due to drugs? Thanks for pointing out that any breakthrough in human performance came about only as a result of cheating.
Bio-chemists developed EPO and steroids to fight illnesses. Granted, some can enhance athletic performance but the capital required to develop new drugs can only be raised if a drug shows promise as a curative therapy or arresting modality in medical circles. In simple terms, will the drugmaker turn a profit once it becomes a widely used therapy? So, where is the money? Getting a few thousand from a handful of athletes looking to cheat or billing insurance companies millions for keeping cancer patients alive? Simple economics of scale dictates no "mad scientist" can afford to develop drugs to improve athletes performances and fool "The Man".
Waz - Just because a former champion suspects doping or makes a vauge comment about it doesn't make it true. While Eddy is a legend, he has been retired for some time. It could have validity or it could also be the ramblings of a past champion who fears being forgotten. Every sport is replete with hall-of-famers who complain the new kids don't work hard enough, or show enough respect, or lack class, or use drugs, etc. and can't be compared with the venerated old guard.
Back it up or back off.
Let's put an end to this. It's obvious that you pro-Lancers need a hero in your lives. It's OK if Lance does or does not dope...if he does, it's because he has to in order to keep up with the other cheats, if he doesn't, he is unfortunately suspicious by association (the sport is as doped up as running), hence the trash (including mine)on this thread...still OK. See, your hero is OK either way. It's the same story I tell my kids about Santa...all that matters is what YOU believe.
Eddy's just pissed b/c his son sucks.
I love the "he's better so he has to be on drugs" argument.
Michael Jordan: drugs
Bjorn Borg: drugs
Mike Tyson in his prime: drugs
Mike Spitz: drugs
Lebron James: drugs
Wayne Gretzky: drugs
Barry Bonds: drugs. Wait, bad example.
Sammy Sosa's bat was on drugs.
One of Lances sponsors is Bristol-Meyers Squibb (sp)
Mike Spitz??? hahaha
I forget the name of the company but I know I read an article in Bicycle magazine about them and it said they custom make all of Lance's bikes but because of his sponsorship deals they have to put Trek stickers on them... I'm sure there's someone who knows that can verify it. I'll look for the article
I'd say at least half of those guys used performance enhancing drugs during their careers. Plus you are comparing apples and oranges.
Cycling like distance running is a sport that requires very little technique, its all about the engine. Get on the bike and pedal harder than the next guy, thats pretty much it in a nutshell. As such its a sport where performance enhancing drugs can make a very big difference.
All the drugs in the world couldn't turn Mike Jones into Michael Jordan or Barry Gibb into Barry Bonds. They can however turn a good cyclist into a great one or a good runner into a great one...if all they lack is the edge that drugs can provide.
If we are talking laws of averages then the chances are pertty good that Lance Armstrong is using something. If the books, exposes, and stories are true then the majority of world class riders are using. For a clean guy to wipe the floor with a whole field of world class athletes on drugs it would take an athlete of unprecedented freakish natural ability and a work ethic never before seen. the Lance Armstrong spin machine tells us that both of these are true...he is better and trains harder and he does it clean
I believe points 1 and 2 just not number 3.
