Age Grouper in Protest wrote:
I often win or at least place in my age group at local races. I'm not nearly as fast as I used to be, but I still like to compete for the fun of it. Most age group awards are useless. Who wants a medal or plaque as a 46 year old? But occasionally, they do give out good stuff like gift certificates to a local running shop, etc...
Medal or plaque as a 46 year old? Plenty of people. I have people complain if just a certificate is given because they say they have nothing to show for their effort. I could give out dinner and a b******* and someone would complain. After a while you tend to not bother with the whiners.
Well, I rarely stay for the awards ceremony afterwards because it usually starts like an hour and a half after the race ends and I need to get home to my family. In the last three months I haven't collected on gift certificates worth $125 because I didn't stay for the awards ceremonies. The race directors (2 different people for 3 different races) returned the certificates to the store. I've inquired about it, but one of them won't answer me and the other said I need to stay for the awards ceremony and it's rude not to.
Well, it IS rude not to so what do you expect? In any case your "hour and a half" is an exageration, but since you always leave you don't have any idea how long you'd wait. I rarely see a 5K take more than 10-15 minutes after the race finishes until there's some major problem. Yes, that's is 10-15 minutes after the last person finishes. Get over it. In about 15 years you'll be back there unless people get tired of your whiney ass and back an equipment truck over your legs or shove a stanchion up your ass.
I also return awards to a running shop, along with a list of award winners so people can pick them up later. Since you're obviously some asshole that berated the RD for not hand delivering it to you at your home, I bet they simply neglected to tell you that it's available at the store. I certainly wouldn't bend over backwards for someone with your attitude.
I beg to differ. First of all, at the last race it was freezing and they were taking their sweet ass time getting on with awards. Secondly, as I stated before I'm lucky if I can find the time to run races. I can't be turning it into a 5 hour affair where a 5K takes me away from my family on the weekends longer than a round of golf.
Family my ass. A guy with your attitude beats his wife for a slow dinner and berates his kids into submission for an A-. I bet money they are happiest when you are gone and wish you'd stay around for the award ceremonies.
I'd recommend going to a strip joint. You can blow your $28 bucks there, your family and all the race directors in your area will thank you. You can get waited on and a stripper will tell you how great you are.
[quote]So for those race directors and others like them, YOU SUCK! You don't have any problem taking my $28 to run a 5K. You should have the courtesy to stick the damn certificates in the mail if you want decent age group runners turning up at your races.[quote]
I don't need your $28. There are plenty of good age groupers showing up and you won't be missed at all. The next RD you meet should take your $28 then kick you in ass, since that's where your head is and you certainly need a smack upside it. Nothing sucks like a whiner, and sir, that is you.
Merry Christmas to you too, and please give us all a present by posting up your real name and birthdate so all of us race directors can put you on a ban list.
