Carl Lewis is a famous singer that goes on the singers who ran track with Johnny Mathis.
Looking at those two names gives me the idea that Boy George and Barry Manilow also ran track.

I think T.J. Duckett still has the Michigan High School Indoor shot put record. It's not running, but its close. I also heard somewhere recently that Young and Vick used to run the 400m against each other. :)
I think I've heard that Wayne Gretzky was into XC when he was young. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Evel Knievel was a talented athlete in his youth (ski-jumper, XC skiing, track and field, hockey).

Vince Young? Isn't the age gap a little big for them to ever have run against each other.
marcus vick possibly??
Trojan, you forgot a Southeast Conference high jump champion who was a first-round draft choice for America's Team, who won two Super Bowls rings, and who led the NFL in yards per reception in 1994! How could you overlook a prominent wide receiver like Alvin Harper?
Though purely heresay, one of my friends once told me that Axle Rose ran cross country.

yeah he did! he says it in this interview
http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/articles/showarticle.php?articleid=56Ha! Ha! Trojan, you also forgot Gayle Sayers, a sprinter and high jumper who might have been the most gifted running back in NFL history. And what about Glenn Davis? He played wide receiver for the Detroit Lions and won two Olympic gold medals as an intermediate hurdler (in 1956 and 1960) and a gold medal in the 4x400 meter relay in 1960. Davis won more Olympic track gold medals than any other athlete on your list. Hmmmm?
i think michael jordan long jumped and high jumped for a year or two in hs. so yeah, end of thread.

BILL COSBY
I cannot believe that we got this far without someone mentioning him (maybe I missed it).
A U.S. Rep that just lost his seat was a pretty good HS runner (JR).

the ? wasn't "famous actors, comedians, etc" but specifically said famous ATHLETES.
The only athlete to fundamentally change American society, Jackie Robinson, of Pasadena Muir H.S, UCLA, Kansas City Monarchs, and the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Monarchs played in the Negro Major Leagues, the real Majors of that period. The White Major Leagues was a misnomer, an inferior league, with slow players with less skill than the Negro Major Leagues.
