Why do you think Wariner could be the best in the backwards run? Just because he is the fastest in the 400 forward doesn't imply he is also the fastes backwards. With the same logic you could argue he's the fastest at 100m swim (takes about the same time), and I doubt he could break 1:30 for this one (depends, if he swims from time to time, he could, but he could never break 60s, which is still a joke for competitive swimmers).
what pee wee is really asking is if Wariner moved up could he own the backwards 800m?
I've run a backwards 400 and mile. My 400 PR is 1:33 (didn't feel too bad, kicked last 100). My mile is 8:20 or something like that. I'm sure I could drop to 80 sec for the 4, but anything beyond that would be agonizing. The mile, on the otherhand, had me hurting for the next 3 days as I went out in 1:35 for the first lap.
the wr is 69.
i think i am going to attempt to set a new world record. i knew this day would come. now its time to train to set the wr.
does anybody know what kind of training i need to do to set a new wr for the reverse 400? thanks.

Yes, run backwards. Long runs, sprints, threshold runs, V02 max intervals, hill repeats, easy runs. Do everything you would normally do, except backwards. You will also need to reverse all of your stretches.

You have to be able to run a 400 meters forward in 69 seconds before you even start training for it backwards.
lol, are you serious?
i was thinking somewhere along the lines of 200m repeats backwards. like, 20 of them in 40 seconds.
i hate you

I think I just pissed myself.
I wonder if I could get the women's WR!
what is the womens world record?
i think i am going to attempt the mens world record, but i need letsruns help for training and support so i can get it. once again, what type of training do i need to do!!!???
i know i will be doing 20 reverse 200's in 40-45 seconds.
also, jack daniels may know this, but how long/ how many stages of phsiological development do i need to go through? i guess i will follow a 400 meter runners regimen. but, jack daniels formula only goes as low as 800.
im sure YOU can get close to it, with the proper training.

That's another thread, though...sorry.
I am the backwards running guru. I live in the Yckor mountains studying the ways of running backwards. It is a way of life and you are an infedel, barely capable of strolling backwards. Running a 60 flat 400? You are a fool. I can run a backwards 400 in 52.34. YOU, however cannot break 80. I can feel your forward moving vibes from my computer. I will provide you with the morning workouts of an average week for me. Note, this does not include my backward doG pihsrow and my list of backwards activities (don't forget to always walk backwards), but if you follow this you may become partially enlightened. Also note that these are only my morning workouts, I have three runs, but I built up to it over a period of 13 years (I am now 25)
Everything is backward unless noted. It should be noted that running forward does strenghten you and is used sporatically/
Monday: 8 mile run, 10 strideouts, 10 forward strides
Tuesday: 4 mile warm-up; 15x400 repeats, mile pace (probably 90 for you because you suck, I do them in 68); 3 mile cooldown.
Wednesday; 9 miles 10 forward strides
Thursday: Tempo run! 7 miles at 6:15 pace (again you guys suck and will probably be around 9 minute pace)
Friday: 8 miles, 10 strideouts, 10 forward strides
Saturday: 7 miles, include lots of hills
Sunday: 14 mile long run
This should probably do it, if you want for the 400, add more intervals (slow the tempo run and do another interval workout on saturday. You could also decrease the milage but do it faster. Remember to visualize yourself in competition a lot it really helps. Eat right and post your results. Ask if you need anything else.
the really soft record is that 1000 x 100 relay. 9:51 i think it is. what a joke. it's time the letsrun crowd worked together and broke a world record. we only need to average 35 seconds for each 100 (i think i did the math right).
The women's world record is 1:32.85, also there is no 800m record. But no, I'm not seriously going to do it.
you could be the biggest waste of life I have ever come across.

forwards or backwards 400 repeats? why would i run 90's?
my current training regimen consists of 12x400 in under 65 on tuesdays.
You cannot maximize your full backwards running potential until you check out the POSE technique. It actually works better when you are moving backwards.
Also, if running fast forwards can reverse time, then running fast backwards can make time go faster!
