I just got home from work and I'm going to run, do a few strides and maybe a few 200s. I figure do some 20 second 100s as strides, then maybe 3 200s, working down 34, 32, 30. Thursday I figure I'll do some harder 200s. I'm going to be out of town this weekend (Friday morning to later on Sunday), so that sucks since I'll be working the whole time and I'll probably only get in some mediocre short runs early or late in the day. I figure strides are going to be key, but whatever, I'm pumped to run.
I'm actually pretty nervous about the whole thing. I have to keep my eye on the Peruvian prize though.
Just for the record, it's a race against the clock and I might get someone from Jersey to pace me. nbd.
In HS, my coach was 2 years out of college my freshman year. He was a 1:50 guy in college. He would run 20-30 miles a week, and every year during track, he would do a few 400s or 200s with us for a few weeks, then one day after practice he would run sub 2 by himself. He did this every year I was there...even doing it while getting a bit heavy by my senior year.
I say that you've got a good chance.
This isn't taking place in DC is it?
5 days befrore: Killer workout; 600m, 500m, 400m all at sub 2 pace with 15 minutes rest, good cooldown
4 days before: 10km easy + some short easy 50-70m strides at 400-800m pace
3 days before: Pace workout; 2x400m, 4x200m all at 60 sec pace or little faster with good recovery, good cooldown
2 days before: off
1 day before: 5km easy + some short easy 50-70m strides at 400-800m pace
race day: 1:58

this is a horrible idea and it's not even close... do you see why?
I don't like to judge, but that eric Savoth sure does have a limp wristed running style.
Is a "peruvian chicken dinner" some kind of code name for a sex act?
sounds like a "todd gack" bet

Not DC, but not very far.
u have like 4-5days to recover so do a hardworkout ASAP recover and ull be fine, I think u shuld get an idea of the shape ur in and running fast for a long period fo time will be hard off of 25-30 mpw
I assume you've already done your workout today. Do whatver you'd normally do for an easy day tomorrow, and then Thursday should be your last (and only) really hard day. I like the idea of starting w/ a 400 in 58-59, then taking a good full recovery (6-10 minutes jogging REALLY easy), then moving on to 4 x 200 in 29-30 w/ 2 minutes EASY jogging/walking recovery, and then finishing up with a 400 all-out (hopefully another 58 or so). Don't forget to do a good cooldown and stretch afterwards; an icebath really might not be a bad idea either.
From there on in I think you're right about strides. Go easy on Friday and Saturday, with 4-8 x 100 meter strides w/ 100 jog/walk rest after your run on Saturday. Take Sunday off, then do an easy fifteen or twenty minutes on Monday, finishing w/ 2 x 150 meter strides w/ a 50 meter buildup to race pace, 50 meters maintaining at race pace, and a 50 meter slowdown.
Then get ready to go 1:58.5 on Tuesday. . . and enjoy your chicken dinner.
I want to hear about this afterwards.
Just got in about 5 or 6 miles. On the track did 2 laps running hard on the straights, 16s and 15s per. Then I did 1 200 in 31. Everything felt fast, but whatever, I still think it's do-able, though I know it's really going to suck.
I'm going to try to eat real healthy until the run so I'm not carrying around extra baggage.
I haven't read any of this, but the first thing you need to do is go out & do an all-out 400 for time. That will give you your best baseline to see what you're capable of.
there isn't one god damn thing you can do that will give you any adaptation. I would run a couple of 150s or 200s at race pace just to get a feel for it. The best thing you could do is not run like a moron and go out fast. For me the easiest way to go sub 2 (especially early season when I am fat and out of shape) is the old 58,61. 58 is just fast enough to give you a cushion and not fill your legs with lactic acid. Then you are gonna have to work because you are probably fat and old and out of shape. Remember to move around the third curve cause any asshole can kick it home but to be brave in an 800 you have to go EARLY. OH and if you are running alone you don't have a prayer in the world.... so you are fuct
I think it would be really weak if you had someone pace you. Esp anyone from Jerz. If you're a real man you'd sail your way around the track hans solo.
Just sayin.
I think it'd be best to do a few really fast 400s, and get in some miles. I don't care what the science says, running hard today will help you next week since you're not in any kind of shape.
witness.

do it.
Also, if we could get this going in a few cities it would be money, but that would mean that people would have to reveal who they are and how fat they\'ve gotten since college. How many people would be interested in running a sub2 800 here? We can get this going in a few cities and all the washed up middle distance guys could go out and have at it. We can then all go eat peruvian chicken (wink wink). The only rule is that it has to be done off a week of \"practice.\" Basically, it\'s only cool if you\'re not working for it and you\'re going to suffer from it for a few weeks.
yeah, if you run sub2 off of two weeks of training you're dead to me.

Is this some code for a gay sex maneuver?
