I was at Malone as well. Mike Collins won the class B race (I was 3rd). In the A race Grant Whitney and Steve Loretz from Corcoran HS (Syracuse) had a big lead, but cut a turn due to the snow on the ground covering the arrows painted on the grass. The 3rd place finisher, Joe Hopkins was declared the winner. Corcoran also lost the team title due to the DQ, but McQuad sent them their medals.
Whitney ran 13:36 in College at Cornell.
Mike Collins was an Irish national and went to Notre Dame.
I don't think Van Wie ever won a NYS title as he ran his 1:48 or 9 at the Golden West meet the same day as the NYS meet.
The class of 83 from NYS was one of the greatest ever: Stahr, Irish, Van Wie, Marsala, Collins, Anthony Smith (I think he went to Houston for college)
Joe McV, not suprised about Stahr and his 10K, but you and Myers were pretty darn good. I think Charles ran in the 29's for 10K, an old NYAC'er.
