Whoa. Nice, controlled run by Princeton. Seven men solidly under 26 minutes. Impressive.

Yes a nice team run on a rather hot day for XC.

Looks to be on the slow side...?
Looks like Princeton women didn't run anyone in their top 5. Quite a good performance from the frosh and others. Look to see Princeton women back in the top 10 in the country and for them to finally win Heps.

Too early to tell, it was rather a warm day and longish grass, and everyone took the first two miles easy (5:20, 10:40).

Princeton women look crazy loaded. No roster up yet, but they recruited well:

It's about time they started getting some recruits. With the facilities, the school's academic reputation, and the running locations, Princeton is definitely in the top 2 Ivy running choices. About time the women's cross team caught up to the men's team. [Obviously, the men's team has struggled the past few years, but I'm referring to the history of the program.]
I wouldn't call a 9th, 18th and 11th place finish nationally for the last three years "just" catching up to the men's team. Princeton has been slightly under the radar because the Ivy League has been very strong on the women's side (constant battles with Columbia), but they have been consistently performing at a national level for three years.

Recruiting hasn't been too shabby either, Emily Kroshus back in 1999 was a Canadian Junior champion and had represented Canada in XC and track who was considering Stanford, Duke, Princeton, Georgetown and Rice! Then there was Cack Ferrell, three-time XC all American when she graduated last year.
Did Ian get action on saturday?

True enough- pton has been very impressive the past 3 years. While I was at school (at Princeton), the question was always- why isn't the women's cross team better? Nothing much has changed at the school- PF has been coaching there since the inception of the women's program. The women's track program has always been very good. It was always a mystery to us why the cross team wasn't better. Glad to see that things have changed in a major way!

Kroshus was an anomaly at the time- none of us could believe that she chose Princeton over Stanford, etc. Not sure if she was more interested in the running or the academics- while she had a solid NCAA career, it was no where near as impressive as what she did in hs. But, as we all know, young women mature phsyically, etc. and things change.
As for Ferrell, she was a good hs runner but nothing spectacular. I believe she was injured most of her senior year, and she was certainly not considered a blue chip recruit. Fantastic collegiate career, though- I'd love to see her continue to run for a few more years.

Ferrell was a sub-11 Junior, didn't run XC (soccer) and obviously had the build that coaches like. I know that at least 3 Ivies considered her one of their top recruits in 2001-2002.
what the heck do you mean by 'build coaches like'?

Now you're splitting hairs. Yes, being a top Ivy recruit is all very well and good, but by "blue chip recruit," I'm talking Stanford, Duke, etc. (top 5 type of schools recruiting you). Maybe a few of those schools did recruit her, but my point is that she is one of those runners who really blossomed during college, as opposed to Kroshus, who was a hs beast but then kind of levelled off.
Listen, I'm just proud of Coach Farrell and the squads he has been putting together recently. Hopefully the men's team can build on the solid track season they had in the 5k.
I have a couple questions. Why did Princeton stop racing at the Battlefield? Will they ever race there again? Isn't tradition a big part of ivy?--comparing times down through the years and all that. So why the new course?
It was stated that Princeton is one of two great running schools (in the ivys). Is it because they have a lot of forest trails?
Is the other good Ivy school to run for Cornell? Ithaca has to be the prettiest, most woodsy town.
For the record, I too will miss Cack Ferrell. It was fun following her career.
Brown's website has the result of their first race:
http://brownbears.cstv.com/sports/m-track/spec-rel/090806aaa.html
Doesn't look like they ran everybody, but they still took 15 from Northeastern and BU at Franklin Park. Nobody under 26:00, but looks like it was a very controlled cruise.
After seeing the job Craig did at Columbia, I'm going to be interested to see what Brown does in coming seasons.
